It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Roy Kenneth Hopkins, who departed this world peacefully at home, enveloped by the warmth and love of his family, on April 11, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on September 4, 1938, in the quaint town of Hardwick, Vermont, Roy's journey through life was marked by unwavering dedication to his family, his work, and his community. The son of Reed and Glenna Hopkins, Roy was raised with the values of hard work and kindness, which became the cornerstone of his character. He graduated from Hardwick Academy in 1956, and shortly thereafter, he served his country with pride as a member of the National Guards. His sense of duty and commitment were ever present, both in his professional life and personal endeavors. In the bustling stone sheds of Barre, Vermont, Roy honed his skills and work ethic. He later embarked on a new chapter, becoming a 1st Class Lineman and contracting with utility companies across Vermont, Maine, and Ohio. His career culminated with his work at Archie Holbrook's Northern Utilities, where he remained until his retirement in 2001. Never one to remain idle, Roy continued to serve his community post-retirement, working at Cabot Creamery and lovingly maintaining the Walden cemeteries during the summers. Roy's personal life was rich and fulfilling. He married Rocky Dawn Preva on April 19, 1958, and together they nurtured a family filled with love and laughter. Although their marriage ended in divorce, they remained lifelong friends. In 1971, Roy found love again with Sherry Moffat, expanding his family with two more children. Roy's legacy lives on through his surviving children: Kelly Hopkins (Earlene) of Hardwick, Kevin Hopkins of Walden, Rhonda Hopkins of Walden, Angel Dunkavich of Lake Elsinore, CA, and Eric Hopkins (Samantha) of Leavenworth, KS. He was a proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren and a doting great-grandfather to 15 great-grandchildren, all of whom were the light of his life. Roy's beloved parents, Reed and Glenna, his sisters Ruby Perry and Rhoda Hopkins, his son Randy Hopkins, and daughter-in-law Robbin Hopkins predeceased him. In his later years, Roy cherished the companionship of Talaia Thomas, his dear friend and travel companion of 25 years, who added joy and adventure to his life. A man of simple pleasures, Roy cherished family cookouts, target shooting, and the warmth of Christmas gatherings. His playful sense of humor and kind, sensitive nature endeared him to all who knew him. He was a creature of habit, known for his farm boy routine, yet his flexibility in later years became a charming anecdote in family lore. Roy's motto, "busy hands are happy hands," inspired those around him to live with purpose and joy. Roy's family is immensely grateful for the compassionate care provided by Home Health and Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to this organization, which offered comfort in his final days. As we bid farewell to Roy, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and service. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and resilience, reminding us all to cherish each moment and to live with a heart full of gratitude.
