In Loving Memory

Roy Ellis Waters
October 10, 1944 — May 30, 2026
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Roy Ellis Waters, who left this world on May 30, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on October 10, 1944, in the heart of Michigan, Roy was a beacon of warmth and joy whose adventurous spirit touched many lives.
Roy was the beloved son of the late John and Vera Waters. He was preceded in death by his cherished brother, Tom Waters, and dear sisters, Joy Waters and Georgia Bubnash. His departure leaves a profound void in the lives of his surviving family: his devoted wife of 26 years, Wanda Waters, who stood by his side with unwavering love and care, especially after his life-changing accident 30 years ago; his loving children, son Geoff Waters and daughter Courtney Kelley; his cherished stepson, Chris Smoak; as well as his adored nephews, John Peltier and Tim Waters, and niece, Kristi Peltier. Roy was also a proud grandfather to five beautiful grandchildren, whose visits from Colorado each summer filled his heart with immense joy.
Roy's life was a testament to resilience and passion. After moving from Michigan to Florida, he dedicated 20 years to Ford Motor Company, a career that was abruptly altered by his accident. Yet, Roy's zest for life never waned. He found solace in the simple pleasures: walking through his neighborhood, sharing stories with friends, and savoring meals and ice cream adventures around town. An ardent boater, Roy spent countless weekends navigating the intercoastal waters, always eager for new adventures and the company of friends. His enthusiasm for sports was infectious; he was a devoted fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and cheered passionately for the Jaguars.
Roy's presence was a gift to all who knew him. His easy-going nature and readiness for fun made him a joy to be around. He was a fantastic father and grandfather, always prioritizing family and cherishing every moment spent with loved ones. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and an unwavering spirit.
A celebration of Roy's life will be held on July 12, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Kathryn Abbey Hannah Park, Pavilion D4 by the lake, 500 Wonderwood Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32233. Friends and family are invited to honor Roy's memory and share stories of a life beautifully lived.
In the wake of his passing, let us hold dear the memories of Roy's laughter, his love for life, and the many ways he touched our hearts. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in peace, and may we carry forward the light he brought into our lives.
