Roy Ellis Waters

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Roy Ellis Waters, who left this world on May 30, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on October 10, 1944 in Michigan, Roy had an adventurous spirit and touched many lives. Roy was the beloved son of the late John and Vera Waters. He was preceded in death by his cherished brother, Tom Waters, and dear sisters, Joy Waters and Georgia Bubnash. His departure leaves a profound loss in the lives of his surviving family: his devoted wife of 26 years, Wanda Waters, who stood by his side with unwavering love and care, especially after his life-changing accident 30 years ago; his loving children, son Geoff Waters and daughter Courtney Kelley; his stepson, Chris Smoak; as well as nephews, John Peltier and Tim Waters, and niece, Kristi Peltier. Roy was also a proud grandfather to five beautiful grandchildren, whose visits from Colorado each summer filled his heart with immense joy. Roy's life was a testament to resilience and passion. He dedicated 20 years to Ford Motor Company, which brought him from Michigan to Florida. Recently, he found solace in the simple pleasures: walking through his neighborhood to be with his friends, and going anywhere Wanda would take him! He especially loved going out to eat and an ice cream treat. In his early years he was an avid boater, spending countless weekends navigating the intercoastal waters, always up for new adventures and the company of friends. He was always wearing his Georgia Bulldog and Jaguar gear everywhere he went. Roy's presence was a gift to all who knew him. He was a fantastic father and grandfather, always cherishing every moment spent with loved ones. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and an unwavering spirit. His family is deeply saddened by his loss, but knows he is safely in the arms of his Heavenly Father, completely whole in mind and body. A celebration of Roy's life will be held on July 12, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Kathryn Abbey Hannah Park, Pavilion D4 by the lake, 500 Wonderwood Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32233. Friends and family are invited to honor Roy's memory and share stories of a life beautifully lived. In the wake of his passing, let us hold dear the memories of Roy's laughter, his love for life, and the many ways he touched our hearts. He will be deeply missed, but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in peace, and may we carry forward the light he brought into our lives.
