Ross Turner Newman “SHYBO”

Ross Turner Newman, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, passed away on September 12, 2026, at the age of 63. Born on January 17, 1963, in Zeigerville, Mississippi, Ross was the cherished son of Cornelia K. Newman and the late Phillip Newman. Ross later moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he attended Nicholas Copernicus School. Later in life, Ross moved to Yazoo City, Mississippi, where he resided and made his home. Ross's life was marked by his incredible work ethic and a true passion for his craft. Known as a jack of all trades, he dedicated his professional life to construction, honing his skills as a roofer and painter. His hands were his tools, and he took immense pride in his ability to complete any task with precision and care. He was a man of many talents, someone who could always find a way to get the job done. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ross had a zest for life that was infectious. He embraced the simple joys, finding happiness in gardening, cooking, and crafting. A skilled fisherman and an adept sewer, he appreciated the beauty in creating and nurturing life. Ross was also known for his immense love of dancing. He was one of the best steppers to ever grace the streets of Chicago, leaving everyone in awe when he hit the dance floor. His moves were as unforgettable as his laughter, and his presence could light up any room. Ross's vibrant spirit and joyous personality touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a man who loved deeply and was deeply loved in return. Those close to him will forever cherish the memories of his kindness and the warmth he brought into their lives. Ross was preceded in death by his father, Phillip Newman; his sisters, Jessie Lee Stewart and Geraldine Brown; and his great-grandchild, Austin Sibley. Ross is survived by his devoted wife, Robertha Luckett-Newman; his loving children, Melinda Kendrick, Stellisha Sibley, Shymane Sibley, Britani Sibley-McBride, Cordero McBride, Cornez Sibley, and Kaywanga Sibley; his cherished stepson, Albert Luckett, and stepdaughters, Ashley Luckett and Pamela Carter. He also leaves behind his dear mother, Cornelia K. Newman; his mother- and father-in-law, Frankie Brown and Joe Moore; and his siblings, John E. Newman, Willie Newman, Hal Newman, Jimmy L. Newman, David E. Newman, Shirley G. Jackson, Nadine Newman, Sally Turner, and Willie Turner. As well as a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great- grandchildren, other relatives, an friends. Ross will forever be remembered and deeply missed by all who loved him. His laughter, talents, and the cherished memories he created will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
