Forever Among the Bluebonnets In Loving Memory of Rose Lynn Johnson July 5, 1940 – October 19, 2026 “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV) With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Rose Lynn Johnson, who entered eternal rest on October 19, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on July 5, 1940, in Houston, Texas, Rose's journey began and ended in the city she called home. Rose was a woman who was impossible to forget. Full of life, laughter, and just the right amount of sass, she had a quick wit and a playful way of keeping everyone on their toes. She loved a good-natured jab and rarely missed an opportunity for a clever remark. Behind her sometimes tough exterior, however, was a heart as soft as could be. Those who knew her understood that her teasing was simply another expression of her affection. Her words might have been sharp, but her love was always gentle. Never one to shy away from a colorful expression, Rose could often be heard declaring, "I'm busier than a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest!" It was that unmistakable combination of humor, honesty, and spirit that made her so dearly loved. She had a way of making people laugh, even when they least expected it. The true matriarch of her family, Rose was a source of strength, warmth, and unwavering love. Her family was the center of her world, and nothing brought her greater happiness than being surrounded by the people she cherished. She had a remarkable ability to make others feel welcome and never met a stranger. Whether you had known her for five minutes or fifty years, Rose had a way of making you feel as though you belonged. A gifted artist and devoted gardener, Rose found beauty in the world around her and had a talent for creating it herself. She appreciated the simple wonders of life, especially the beauty of flowers and the joy of sharing those moments with her loved ones. Among the most treasured memories she leaves behind are the annual trips to the Bluebonnet Festival with her grandchildren. Surrounded by fields of beautiful Texas bluebonnets, Rose was in her element, sharing her love of nature, laughter, and family. Those springtime outings became more than a tradition. They became a reflection of everything she held dear: beauty, togetherness, and the simple happiness of making memories with those she loved most. Rose's heart was as generous as it was loving. She believed in giving to others and lived that belief through her charitable spirit and willingness to help wherever she could. Her kindness extended far beyond her own family, touching the lives of friends, neighbors, and strangers alike. A devoted Lutheran, Rose's faith in God was a guiding light throughout her life. She carried that faith not only in her heart but in the way she treated others, with compassion, generosity, and grace. Her life was a testament to the belief that love is best expressed through action. Rose was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Johnson; her parents, Joe and Virginia Smith; her brother, Joe Smith Jr.; and beloved grandchildren who passed before her. She leaves behind her loving daughters, Peggy and Chrissy, and son-in-law Charles; her grandchildren, Jasmine, Justin, Samuel, Lisa, and Robert; and her great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Chasity, Nelson, and Jeremiah, along with extended family and friends who will forever cherish her memory. Though her absence will be deeply felt, Rose leaves behind a legacy far greater than words can capture. It lives in the laughter shared around family tables, the kindness extended to strangers, the beauty of a carefully tended garden, and the generations who will carry her love forward. She taught those around her that strength and tenderness could exist in the same heart, that laughter could brighten even the hardest days, and that family was among life's greatest blessings. And when spring returns to Texas and the bluebonnets once again blanket the fields, those who loved her will remember the woman who found such joy among them. They will remember her laughter, her playful teasing, her generous heart, and the love that made every moment together so special. For flowers may fade and seasons may change, but the love Rose planted in the hearts of her family will bloom forever. Until we meet again, may you rest peacefully among the bluebonnets.
