Rose Deanna Rice

March 26, 1957 — July 5, 2026

With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we remember Rose Deanna Rice. Rose went to be with the Lord on July 5, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on March 26, 1957, in Flemington, Florida, Rose was the daughter of the late Herman C. Rice and Katie Mae Rice (née Colyer). She was predeceased by her brothers Herman C. Rice, Jr., Joshua T. Rice, Vince C. Rice, and Darryl J. Rice. Rose's life was a testament to love, resilience, and dedication. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and strength, survived by her beloved children: The Honorable Regis N. Rice Hicks (Shaun), Rory N. Rice (Regina), and Rene K. Rice. She is also fondly remembered by her siblings, Carol A. Hawkins, Paulette S. Rice, and Eric D. Rice (Frenchie). Rose's heart was filled with joy by her grandchildren Deneicia Rice (Charles), Deante Rice, Raynah Rice, Aria Hicks, and her great-grandchildren Demir Rice and Zaneya Rice. They were her pride and joy, and she delighted in their laughter and growth. Rose's academic journey began at North Marion High School, where she graduated in 1975. She pursued higher education with determination, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of North Florida, followed by a Master’s and Specialist Degree in Education from Webster University. Her passion for teaching and her love for children, especially those with special needs, led her to a fulfilling 33-year career with Marion County Public Schools. As an educator, staffing specialist, and Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Coordinator, Rose touched countless lives before her retirement in 2018. A woman of faith, Rose accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age. She was a lifelong member of the Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, where she shared her musical talents as a pianist for various choirs and led the children's choir with dedication and grace. Her spiritual journey was marked by unwavering faith and service to her community. Rose's life was defined by her selflessness and perseverance. As a single mother, she worked multiple jobs to provide for her family, instilling in her children the values of hard work and integrity. Her proudest moments were spent witnessing the accomplishments of her children and the growth of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose smiles brought light to her life.
