September 2, 1955 — May 23, 2026

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Rose Curtis Butler, who left this world on May 23, 2026. Born on September 2, 1955, in the warm and welcoming town of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Rose lived a life dedicated to the care, love, and service of others. She was 70 years old. Rose was the cherished daughter of the late Robert and Emma Curtis, and she found herself surrounded by a large and loving family. Predeceased by her parents and siblings—Emma Kate Forest, Robert Curtis Jr., Martha Jean Curtis, John Curtis, Eddie Curtis, and Margrite Curtis Ferrell—Rose now joins them in eternal rest. A devoted wife, Rose shared her life with her loving husband, James Butler. Their marriage was a testament to love and companionship, and James was her steadfast partner through life's many seasons. Together, they raised a son, Robert P. Curtis, who carries forward his mother's legacy of kindness and compassion. Rose was a beacon of warmth and friendliness, qualities that drew people to her throughout her life. She graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1971 and later pursued further education at Hinds Community College, earning her degree in 2011. Her career as a home health caregiver spanned 29 years, during which she touched countless lives with her gentle care and unwavering dedication. Beyond her professional life, Rose was deeply committed to causes close to her heart. She was an active member of the Sierra Club and generously supported the American Heart Association, St. Jude Children's Hospital, and the ASPCA. Her love for animals was well known, and she always had a pet by her side to care for and cherish. Rose's home was a gathering place of love and laughter, where she shared her passion for TV programs and movies. Her genuine interest in others’ stories made her a captivating conversationalist, and she was known for her personable nature and willingness to help those in need. She leaves behind a grieving yet grateful family: her devoted husband, James; her beloved son, Robert P. Curtis; her caring sister, Connie T. Bingham; and her nieces and nephews, Bethany Bingham Campbell, Jerome Bingham Jr., Alvin Wade, Dawatha E. Lee, Michelle Farrell, and Kay Rose Bradford. Each of them carries a piece of Rose's spirit and her legacy of love. Rose's passing came after a courageous battle with numerous illnesses. Despite being hospitalized multiple times, she faced each challenge with grace and fortitude. Though her last illness was unexpected and severe, she departed this world peacefully, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. In honoring Rose's life, we celebrate her enduring spirit, her boundless kindness, and the profound impact she had on all who knew her. Her memory will forever remain in our hearts as a testament to the beauty of a life well-lived. A memorial service to honor and celebrate Rose's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Rose's memory to the American Heart Association, St. Jude Children's Hospital, or the ASPCA, reflecting her lifelong commitment to these causes. May Rose Curtis Butler rest in eternal peace, her legacy of love and compassion forever cherished by all who were blessed to know her.
