Rosa Merel Orr
February 16, 1952 — June 15, 2026
It is with heartfelt sadness yet profound gratitude for a life beautifully lived that we announce the passing of our beloved Rosa Merel Orr. Rosa peacefully departed this world on June 15, 2026, surrounded by the love and warmth of her cherished husband and children, at the age of 74.
Born on February 16, 1952, in the quaint town of Hawkinsville, Georgia, Rosa was the treasured daughter of Clarence and Laura Whitehead. As a young girl, she exuded a vibrant spirit and a love for life that she carried with her throughout her years. She graduated from Hawkinsville High School in 1970, leaving a lasting impression on her classmates with her kindness and zest for life.
On July 31, 1971, Rosa married the love of her life, Elijah Orr, in an intimate ceremony in Hawkinsville, Georgia, brought together by the loving hands of Aunt Pinkie Brown. Together, they built a strong and enduring marriage of 54 years, raising two wonderful daughters, Monica and Celeste, who were the center of their world. Rosa's devotion to her family was unwavering, and her love extended to her two sisters as well.
Rosa began her professional journey at Northern Telecom, where she worked diligently until 1993, when health challenges required her to step away. Despite suffering a stroke and aneurysm, Rosa's indomitable spirit and infectious smile continued to inspire those around her. She filled her days with the simple joys of life—bowling, playing softball, and solving wordsearch puzzles. She was an avid fan of game shows, never missing an episode of "Walker, Texas Ranger" or her beloved black-and-white films. Her passion for Braves Baseball and adventures in travel were testaments to her enduring enthusiasm for life.
A devoted member of Beulah Baptist Church, Rosa's faith was a guiding light in her life, and her beautiful soul touched the hearts of everyone she encountered. Her laughter could light up a room, and her compassion knew no bounds.
Rosa's legacy is carried on by her devoted husband, Elijah Orr; her treasured daughters, Monica and Celeste Orr; her loving siblings, Cleveland Whitehead (Mishone), Lamar Whitehead (Alice), Lorenzo Whitehead (Vondale), Sherry Walker (Ricky), and Sharon (Shawty) Whitehead; and her cherished extended family, including her brother-in-law Charles Orr (Yvette), Matthew Hammond Sr. (Sandra), Tiffany Orr, Tikira Orr (Pete), Regina Whitehead, Sharon Whitehead and a host of nieces and nephews. She leaves behind three adored grandsons and twelve beloved great-grandchildren, who will continue to honor her memory with their lives.
Rosa is reunited in eternal peace with her parents, Clarence and Laura Whitehead; her in-laws, Elijah Orr Sr. and Ruby Mae Turner; her brothers Willie (Bill) and Terry Whitehead; and her niece and nephews, April, Reginald (Reggie), Rashad (Bubbles), and great-niece Kandace.
A celebration of Rosa's extraordinary life will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, located at 5755 Mallory Road, College Park, GA 30349. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens and Pruitt Health Decatur for their compassionate care during this time.
As we remember Rosa, let us carry forward her legacy of love, joy, and laughter. Her beautiful soul will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
