Rosa Lemvo, a beloved beacon of warmth and wisdom, peacefully passed away at home on September 1, 2026, surrounded by the love she so generously gave in life. Born on September 30, 1944, in the town of Sabine, West Virginia, Rosa was the cherished daughter of Walter and Mary, who preceded her in death.
She was a devoted mother to her son, Ntima Lemvo, and a proud grandmother to Nsieme "Shim" Lemvo. Her legacy extends through her two great-grandchildren, Samiya Walton & Sariah Walton, who will carry forward the essence of her love. Rosa is also survived by her sister Willie and her brother Pete. We honor her siblings who passed before her, Jimmy, Buddy, Junebug, Lottie, Dottie and most recently her sister Gerri who passed only a week prior to Rosa. Rosa was also a mother to many children who she helped raise across the decades, we also give honor to the many she was a mother figure to as well.
In the early 1960s, Rosa married Joseph Lemvo, and although their paths diverged in the 1970s, their bond endured as a close and cherished friendship. In the 1980s, she found love again with Denzel Depeiza, and together they continued to share a profound friendship.
Rosa's academic pursuits led her to University of Phoenix, where she earned her Bachelors degree. She pursued further education earning a certificate in substance abuse counseling. She dedicated 30 years of her life to serving Los Angeles County as a compassionate social worker. Even in retirement, her commitment to public service never wavered, as she continued to counsel women affected by alcohol and substance abuse.
A dedicated member of Progress Baptist Church for over 25 years, Rosa served on the Mother Board and embraced numerous leadership roles. Her faith and spirit of service were guiding lights to those around her.
Beyond her professional life, Rosa was an extraordinary cook, renowned for her delectable home-cooked meals and signature cakes, such as her famous rum cake, pound cake and banana pudding. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and hospitality, where love was the main ingredient. An avid traveler, Rosa's adventurous spirit led her across the United States, Africa, the Caribbean, and beyond. Her love for genealogy connected her with extended family, and she delighted in hosting and attending family reunions.
Rosa's kindness and quick wit endeared her to all who knew her. Her presence was often the glue that held gatherings together, whether through a heartfelt visit, a long phone call, or even a thoughtful card in the mail. Her ability to bring people together was a testament to her nurturing spirit and sharp mind. Rosa Lemvo's legacy of love, resilience, and compassion will forever be etched in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. She leaves behind a world made brighter by her presence and a family forever grateful for the gift of her life.
A service honoring Rosa's remarkable life will be held on October 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Progress Baptist Church, located at 2122 E El Segundo Blvd in Compton, California.

God’s Garden
God saw you getting tired
and a cure was not to be,
so He put His arms around you
and whispered, "Come to Me."
With tearful eyes we watched you,
and saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly,
we could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
hard-working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
