Ronnie Jerome Bailey

February 10, 1948 — June 25, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of our beloved Ronnie Jerome Bailey, who departed this world on June 25, 2026, after a courageous battle with an illness. Born on February 10, 1948, in Greensboro, North Carolina, Ronnie's life was a testament to resilience, dedication, and unwavering love for his family and fellow man. Ronnie was the cherished son of the late William E. Bailey and Shirley H. Bailey. He is survived by his son, Ronnie Jr., and his loving siblings, Coy, Roy, Reginald, and Jeanette. Ronnie's legacy is further carried forth by his extended family and close friends, who will forever remember his commitment to truth and integrity. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Geraldine Brunson and Jessica Bailey, and his brother William Bailey Jr., who are now reunited in eternal rest. Ronnie's journey began in the vibrant community of Greensboro, where he earned his high school credentials from Job Corps alongside the legendary George Foreman. It was here that Ronnie developed a lifelong passion for infrastructure, boxing, and physical fitness, which would shape the man he became. Answering the call to serve his country, Ronnie enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, completing two tours of duty in Vietnam. As a Lance Corporal, Ronnie was part of the elite "Force Recon" unit, undertaking missions from the historic USS Point Defiance. His bravery and dedication earned him the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal, honors that spoke to his courage and commitment. Upon returning from Vietnam, Ronnie embarked on a career that would span over three decades. He began at Thompson and Arthur Paving before pursuing further education, becoming a skilled concrete finisher and foreman with Kirkpatrick Concrete of Burlington. For over 30 years, Ronnie's expertise and dedication were invaluable, leading him to work on special projects even after his retirement in 2010. A man of deep faith and action, Ronnie's spiritual life was personal and profound. Although not bound by formal church membership, his worship was abiding and transformative, embodying the spirit of a true "fisher of men." Ronnie's character mirrored the sentiments of Sam Walter Foss's poem, "The House by the Side of the Road," reflecting a life of compassion, mercy, and authenticity. His devotion to helping others, especially young people, was a source of immense joy, and he firmly believed in the honor of hard work, echoing the words of 2 Thessalonians 3:10, "If you don't work, you don't eat." Ronnie found peace and solace in the simple joys of life. An avid fisherman, he cherished the quiet moments on the water, finding reflection and communion with God. His love for tending chickens and his flower garden, particularly roses he shared with elderly neighbors, revealed a gentle soul who found beauty in nurturing life. A man of few words, Ronnie's actions spoke volumes. His presence made everyone feel welcome and valued, and his kindness and generosity touched countless lives. As we gather to celebrate his life, we invite you to join us on July 10, 2026, at 12:00 noon at Brown Funeral Home, 909 E. Market Street, Greensboro, North Carolina, to honor a life well-lived. In the words of 1 Corinthians 15:52, "In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall rise again incorruptible; and we shall be changed." And so we remember Ronnie Jerome Bailey, a man of honor, love, and faith, as he finds peace in eternal victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 1 Corinthians 15:55. Ronnie's legacy of love and service will forever echo in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
