It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronnie Darnell Givens, who departed this life on February 11, 2026, at the age of 76. Ronnie left this world peacefully, enveloped in the love of his family, following a long and courageous battle with colon cancer. His journey began on August 22, 1949, in the vibrant city of Nashville, Tennessee, where he was born to the late Christine and Darnell Givens. Ronnie was a man who embodied strength, resilience, and unwavering dedication. From his early years, he showed a commitment to excellence, graduating with honors from Two Rivers High School in 1967. His pursuit of knowledge and personal growth continued throughout his distinguished military career, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. Ronnie honorably served in the United States Military from 1969 to 2013, dedicating over four decades to his country with courage, discipline, and commitment. His service was marked by integrity and a steadfast spirit that inspired those around him. A proud member of the Freemasons, Ronnie embraced the principles of brotherhood, charity, and integrity, rising to the esteemed position of 33rd GrandMaster. His legacy within this brotherhood is one of wisdom, leadership, and unwavering support. Though his exterior was molded by the discipline of military life—firm and no-nonsense—those who knew Ronnie best understood the depth of his love. His affection was expressed through protection, provision, and a constant presence. He was the bedrock of his family, providing stability and strength with unwavering dependability. Ronnie's life partner, Gayle Roberts, was his steadfast companion and source of joy. Together, they shared a life filled with love and devotion. Ronnie's legacy lives on through his beloved children: Ronnie Givens Jr, Mya Hunter (Alex McAbee, Larry McAbee), Auburn Hunter (Byron Turner, Lyrik Turner & Dominik Turner), Brione Givens (Stacy Givens), Jessica Rucker (Jeffery Rucker), Thaddeus Elam (Kadeja Elam), Kalon Kimpner, Rufus Erving-Givens, Nicole King (Courtney King, D.J. King), Michelle Foxx (Kalvin Foxx), Kierra Givens, Tonya Givens (Deauntae & Deaundre Givens, Mark Givens), Jadell Osborn (Vicky Osborn), Regina Woods, and Lisa Woods. He was a cherished grandfather to nine wonderful grandchildren and great-grandfather to three precious great-grandchildren. Ronnie was predeceased by his parents and his dear brother, Billy Givens. He is survived by his cherished friend and brother, Samson Woodall, a bond forged through shared experiences and mutual respect. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Heart & Soul Hospice for their compassionate care and support during Ronnie's final days. Their gentle guidance and unwavering dedication provided comfort during a challenging time. A celebration of Ronnie's life will be held on February 20, 2026, at 4:00 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, located at 7594 Old Hickory Blvd, Whites Creek, TN 37189. The family invites all who knew and loved him to join in honoring the remarkable life of a man who lived with Semper Fidelis forever in his heart. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to organizations that support veterans and cancer research, in honor of Ronnie's life of service and strength. May his memory be a blessing to all who had the privilege to know him.
