December 2, 1971 — November 29, 2009
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Ronald Wilbur Owens, known to many as Ronnie, who was tragically taken from us on November 29, 2009. Born on December 2, 1971, in Tacoma, Washington, Ronnie's life, though cut short, was filled with love, dedication, and service to his community.
Ronnie was the cherished son of Ramona Owens and the late Ronald Owens, who preceded him in death. Growing up in Tacoma, Ronnie was surrounded by the warmth of his family and the love of his community. He graduated from Washington High School in 1990, where he was a three-time letter winner, showcasing his determination and spirit from a young age.
In 1997, Ronnie embarked on a career with the Washington State Patrol, where he served with honor until 2004. His commitment to public safety and his desire to impact his community positively led him to join the Lakewood Police Department in 2004. Ronnie's passion for his work was evident to all who knew him, and he was deeply respected by his colleagues and the community he served.
On December 5, 1998, Ronnie married the love of his life, Heather Owens. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter. Ronnie was a devoted husband and an even more devoted father to his daughter, Taylor Rose Owens. His love for Taylor was boundless, and he cherished every moment they spent together, especially their shared passion for NASCAR and their playful times together. Ronnie's joyous spirit and warmth made him not only a great friend but also a great Dad, a role he treasured above all.
Ronnie is survived by his loving wife, Heather Owens, his precious daughter, Taylor, and his caring sister, Madison Owens. His family was the center of his world, and his legacy of love and dedication will forever be remembered by those who were fortunate to know him.
Ronnie's life was tragically cut short when he was shot and killed in the line of duty at a coffee shop in Lakewood, WA. His bravery and selflessness will never be forgotten, and he leaves behind a legacy of courage, compassion, and unwavering dedication to protecting others.
As we mourn the loss of a remarkable man, we also celebrate the life Ronnie lived—a life marked by love, service, and an unyielding dedication to his family and community. His memory will forever be etched in our hearts, and his spirit will live on in the lives of those he touched.
A memorial service will be held to honor Ronnie's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a fund established for his daughter, Taylor Rose Owens, to support her future endeavors.
Rest in peace, dear Ronnie. You will be deeply missed and eternally remembered.
