In Loving Memory

Ronald Steenstra
April 25, 1933 — October 7, 2026
Ronald Steenstra, lovingly known as "Gpa" to those closest to him, passed away peacefully at the age of 93, with his devoted wife of over 70 years, Rita, by his side. Born on April 25, 1933, in New Jersey, Ronald lived a life full of joy and devotion, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth that will forever be cherished by his family and friends including his devoted children, Ralph, Ross, Ronna, and Royd (Paula).
Ron proudly served in the US Army, dedicating his years to the service of his country. After his military service, he embarked on a long career driving a Greyhound bus, where he touched the lives of countless passengers with his friendly demeanor and unwavering dedication. Eventually, Ron settled into a quiet and fulfilling retirement, spending his days enjoying the simple pleasures of life.
An avid golfer, Ron could often be found out on the links five days a week, reveling in the sport he loved so dearly. His passion for movies and old Hollywood was infectious, and he delighted in sharing stories and discussions about his favorite films. He particularly enjoyed watching "The Closer" and admired Kyra Sedgwick as she skillfully solved cases, often sharing his thoughts with his family.
Ron's greatest joy, however, came from his family. His heart swelled with pride and affection when he was called "Gpa" by his five grandchildren—Ryan, Lesley, Matt, Charlie, and Daniel—and his three great-grandchildren. An easy-going and devoted husband, Ron cherished every moment spent with Rita, whether they were running errands or simply enjoying the comforts of home.
In accordance with Ron's wishes, there will be no formal service. He chose cremation, and when the time is right, he and his beloved Rita will be laid to rest together in the serene mountains of North Carolina, a place that held special meaning to them both.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to those who have shared in Ronald's remarkable journey. In lieu of flowers, they kindly request that any memorial contributions be made to a charity of choice, in honor of Ron's generous and compassionate spirit. His memory will forever remain a beacon of love and kindness in the hearts of all who knew him.
