May 26, 1938 — April 21, 2026

It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Ronald J. Carlson, who departed this world on April 21, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on May 26, 1938, in Woodstock, Illinois, Ron was the cherished son of John A. Carlson and Elizabeth B. Carlson. Throughout his life, Ron exemplified the virtues of integrity, kindness, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to family. Ron started his professional life in Crystal Lake IL., where he built a long running Real Estate Firm, Carlson Real Estate. He was also the founder of some of Crystal Lake’s more successful businesses at the time, downtown’s Cat Ballou’s, and the North Shore of the Lake’s General Store, along with many other businesses and properties in McHenry County. Ron went to Woodstock High School where he played basketball and football for The “Blue Streaks”. He was also a Shriner, Kiwanis Club, and a proud member of the Mason’s. Ron was blessed with a loving marriage to his adored wife, Frances Windham Carlson whom he met while enlisted in the U.S. Navy in Pensacola, FL. In the early 1980’s, Ron and Fran moved to Florida to retire. Their union spanned decades until her passing. Together, they built a family rooted in love, respect, and shared values. Frances preceded him in death, as did his brothers, Robert Carlson and Donald Carlson, whose memories remained close to his heart. As a devoted father, Ron nurtured three remarkable children: Gregory Carlson, alongside his wife Bonni London; Steven Carlson, with his wife Paula Walker Carlson; and Kimberly Carlson Cicchetto, with her husband Gregg Cicchetto. His legacy of love continues through his grandchildren, Chelsea Carlson Freas with her husband Alex Freas, and John Tanner Carlson with his wife Michelle Durr Carlson. Ron's joy knew no bounds with the arrival of his great-grandchildren, Camden Sage Freas and Cole John Carlson, each a beacon of light in his later years. Ron lived a life marked by quiet generosity and a steadfast devotion to those he loved. His gentle spirit and wise counsel were a source of comfort and strength to family and friends alike. Though he journeyed through life with humility, his impact was profound, touching the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. A private ceremony will be held to honor Ron's life, as per his wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Ron's memory to a wonderful hospice facility that took care of Ron with love and dignity: Hope Healthcare Services, Cape Coral Fl. Ron will be remembered not just for the years he lived but for the love he gave, the lessons he imparted, and the enduring legacy of warmth and compassion he leaves behind. As we celebrate his remarkable journey, we find solace in knowing that he has been reunited with his beloved Fran and his cherished brothers. In the words of those who loved him, Ron was a beacon of light and love—a true testament to a life beautifully lived.
