In Loving Memory

Ronald Gene Smith
August 18, 1947 — May 12, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of Ronald Gene Smith, lovingly known as "Ron" or affectionately nicknamed "The Mayor" by those who cherished him. Born on August 18, 1947, in the quaint town of Rochester, Pennsylvania, Ron departed this life on May 12, 2026, in Bushnell, Florida, after a courageous and determined battle with illness.
Ronald was the beloved son of Nicholas and Mary Smith, who, along with his brother, Charles Smith, predeceased him. His parents instilled in him the values of hard work, loyalty, and love, qualities that he carried throughout his life and passed down to his surviving family members, including his adored children Brian, Eric (Trish), and Wendy Judkins (Kevin). He also leaves behind his cherished brothers Victor, Lenny (Linda), and Vern, as well as his beloved sisters Barb and Becky. Ron's legacy is further enriched by his six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his later years.
In 2010, fate smiled upon Ron when he met Ione Redman in Casey, Illinois. It was a meeting that blossomed into a deep and abiding love, a love that inspired them both to relocate to the sunlit embrace of Bushnell, Florida, in 2013. There, under the warm Florida sun, Ron and Ione nurtured a life filled with laughter, companionship, and shared dreams, creating beautiful memories that will forever be cherished.
Ronald's life was marked by service and dedication. In 1967, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the Marines and bravely serving in Vietnam as air support. Rising to the rank of Sergeant, Ron's valor and commitment were recognized with numerous accolades, including the Combat Air Medal, Air Medal, and the distinguished Purple Heart, each a testament to his bravery and sacrifice.
After his honorable military service, Ron channeled his skills and passion into a career as a heating and cooling technician. His exceptional proficiency and strong work ethic led him to establish his own business, which he successfully operated for 35 years. Ron's professional journey was not just about work; it was about building relationships, supporting his community, and leaving a lasting imprint on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A proud member of the American Legion, Ron was a beacon of camaraderie and support to his fellow veterans. His community involvement was a testament to his unwavering commitment to service beyond self.
To know Ron was to know a man who embodied warmth, humor, and generosity. His ability to connect with people was unparalleled, earning him the endearing nickname "The Mayor" among friends and family. Ron was the heart of every gathering, always ready with a kind word, a helping hand, or a story that would leave everyone in stitches.
As we bid farewell to Ronald Gene Smith, we celebrate a life well-lived, one that touched countless lives with love, friendship, and inspiration. His legacy will endure in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of walking alongside him on his journey.
A memorial service will be held to honor Ron's life on a date to be announced, where friends and family will gather to remember and celebrate the incredible man who brought so much light and laughter into our world.
Rest in peace, dear Ron. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
