In Loving Memory of Ronald Turbyfill (March 7, 1941 - June 19, 2026) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald Turbyfill, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend. Ron passed away peacefully on June 19, 2026, in Farmville, Virginia, at the age of 85, after a courageous battle with stage 4 kidney failure and a weak heart. His indomitable spirit and his love for laughter will remain warmly in the hearts of those who knew him. Born on March 7, 1941, in Elizabethton, Tennessee, Ron was the cherished son of Roscoe and Mae Turbyfill. His life was marked by dedication, resilience, and a deep love for his family and country. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Shirley Ann Turbyfill, who was not only his partner in life but also his greatest love since their marriage on July 4, 1962, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared countless memories until her passing. Ron was a proud veteran, having served with honor in the US Army during the Vietnam War. It was during these nine and a half years in the military that he completed his education and trained as a professional chef. His service, from approximately 1960 to 1969, was a testament to his commitment and strength. After his service, Ron moved his family from Richmond, Virginia, to Maryland, where he embarked on a new career with Continental Trailways Transportation Systems as a bus driver—a job he truly loved. A man of quiet strength and subtle humor, Ron had a passion for history and was an avid viewer of historical and news programs. His intelligence and determination were evident in all he did, and he was known for his loyalty and unwavering resolve once he set his mind to something. Though typically reserved, Ron had a knack for making people laugh and cherished the joy shared in those moments. Ron is survived by his three loving children: Becky L. Cable (Turbyfill), Ronald Dale Turbyfill II, and Jonathan Anthony Turbyfill. He was preceded in death by his son, Donnie Wayne Turbyfill, who passed away in July 2017. Ron's legacy continues through his nine cherished grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated nurses and doctors at Centra Southside Community Hospital, the compassionate hospice nurses, and friends and family who offered their support and visits. A special thank you is extended to Melissa King for her selfless care and companionship, especially after Ron lost his eyesight following a stroke in June 2025. A service to honor and celebrate Ron's life will be held on June 24, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia Court House, located at 10300 Pridesville Rd., Amelia Court House, VA 23002. In this time of sorrow, may we find comfort in the memories we shared with Ron and the love he gave so freely. His life was a testament to kindness, laughter, and the enduring power of family. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
