Ronald Edward Motley

It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Ronald Edward Motley, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who left this world on August 8, 2026. Born on May 1, 1952, in Nashville, Tennessee, Ronald was a beacon of warmth and kindness throughout his life, leaving an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. Ronald was the cherished son of the late Raymond J. Motley and Lillian I. Motley. He was predeceased by his devoted parents, whose love and guidance shaped the compassionate and giving man Ronald became. Ronald is survived by his loving children, Rachel D. Motley and Robert C. Motley, along with Dustin Thompson. He was a proud and adored grandfather to Evan H.S. Motley-Horton, Ariann R. Motley-Horton, Maddison, and Allison Motley. He also leaves behind his dear brother, Raymond V. Motley Sr., and his sister, Joann E. Bradley, along with a host of nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart. Ronald's previous spouse, Charlotte Caldwell Thompson, remained a close and cherished friend throughout his life. A graduate of Donelson High School in June 1970, Ronald's passion for community and service was evident from a young age. He was an active member of the Future Farmers, holding roles such as Chaplain and representative for various school publications and the Red Cross. His commitment to service extended beyond his school years, as he became a dedicated member of the Donelson United Methodist Church and Choir, Saint Paul's United Methodist Church and Choir, and the Hartsville United Methodist Church and Choir. Ronald's involvement in the Boy Scouts of Hartsville, Tennessee, exemplified his dedication to nurturing the next generation. Ronald's life was enriched by a variety of interests and hobbies. He was an avid card collector and found joy in the art of crochet and knitting. His love for horses and music, particularly the timeless tunes of Elvis, was infectious to those around him. Known for his volunteer work, Ronald exemplified a life of giving, always eager to lend a helping hand to those in need. Those who knew Ronald often remarked on his friendly nature and his ability to connect with strangers, making them feel like old friends. His opinionated spirit and pride in his Native American heritage were defining aspects of his character, adding depth to his vibrant personality. In honor of his life and legacy, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting Ronald's lifelong commitment to helping others. Ronald Edward Motley will be dearly missed, but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
