Rolland E. Long

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rolland E. Long, who left this world on July 28, 2026, after a sudden heart attack. Born on March 19, 1932, in Alcoa, Tennessee, Rolland lived a life full of love, adventure, and service. Rolland was the cherished son of Rufus and his beloved late mother. He was a devoted brother to Lowell and a loving father to his two daughters, who survive him. He was also the proud grandfather to three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to his life. In 1958, Rolland's life took a fateful turn when he met Ms. Mabel Lewis on a blind date in California. It was love at first sight, and the two soon married, embarking on a beautiful journey together. Mabel, who passed away in 2013, was the love of his life, and they shared a remarkable marriage filled with laughter, mutual respect, and unwavering support. Together, they raised their daughters in a loving home, embodying the American dream. Rolland's devotion to his country was evident early in his life. After high school, where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball, he chose to serve his nation by joining the United States Air Force in 1952. As an Airman Second Class, he honed his skills in Germany and London during the Korean War. He served with honor until his discharge in 1956, a testament to his dedication and patriotism. Rolland’s career was as varied and vibrant as his life. He worked at General Motors and served in custodial roles at several banks in Los Angeles, as well as at John Wesley Hospital. His dedication and work ethic eventually led him to a position as a Maintenance Worker at the Los Angeles County Hospital, where his presence was as steady as it was reassuring. Outside of work, Rolland had a zest for life that was infectious. In the 1980s, he rediscovered his passion for sports, engaging in basketball, tennis, and jogging. His charm and generosity were legendary among those who knew him. Rolland had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcomed and cherished. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and was a beacon of support for friends and family alike. Rolland's life will be celebrated in a private ceremony, as requested by the family.
