Roland Steffers
April 20, 1925 — September 23, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Roland Steffers on September 23, 2026, at St John’s Home in Rochester, New York. Born on April 20, 1925, in the town of Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, Roland's life was a testament to love, service, and dedication to family.
The son of Cosmo Stefanucci and Christina Di Paso, Roland grew up in Brooklyn, New York, where he attended Franklin K Lane High School. At the age of 18, he volunteered for the U.S. Navy. Serving aboard the destroyer USS Forrest during World War II, Roland exemplified courage and commitment.
Shortly after returning home, Roland married Norma Scarfo on September 25, 1945. Together, they embarked on a beautiful journey, settling in Bayside, Queens, where they lovingly raised their twin daughters, Michelle and Marisa, and sons, Steven and Eddie. Roland and Norma's partnership was marked by deep affection until Norma's untimely passing from ovarian cancer on September 17, 1978.
A man of many talents, Roland worked as a crane operator with JH Welsh Cranes and pursued entrepreneurial ventures by establishing AAA Well Drilling, his own well-drilling and sprinkler instillation company. Beyond his professional achievements, Roland found joy in life's simple pleasures. An avid sailor, he took to the waters in his J24; he was also a passionate golfer, an enthusiastic skier, and a gardener (mostly tomatoes and basil). Cooking and spending time with his family brought him immense joy, leading him to relocate from Bayside, New York, to Rochester, solely to be closer to his cherished grandchildren.
Roland's warmth, kindness, and engaging personality left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His tremendous sense of humor could light up any room, and his generous spirit was a beacon to family and friends alike.
Roland was predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife Norma, his cherished daughter Marisa, his siblings Joseph, Edgar, Mildred, Dolores Caffrey, Gloria Emanuele, and his in-laws Michael Franzese, Dick Caffrey, Ciro Ceparano, Jimmy Emanuele, and Ann DeLuca. He is survived by his loving daughter Dr. Michelle Steffers and her husband Dr. James Fetten, his devoted sons Edgar (Eddie) Steffers and Steven Steffers and his wife Elizabeth Steffers. He leaves behind his adored grandchildren Matthew, Evan, Francesca, and Jude; his step-grandchildren Olivia and Andrew, his adored sisters Anna Franzese and Rose Ceparano, nieces Lori , Karen, Diane, Linda, Maria, Doreen, Laura, nephews Robert, Anthony, Michael, Glen, Jimmy and Kenny and their spouses and children.
