Roger L. Wick, a beloved husband, devoted family man, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026, at the age of 74, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. Born on December 17, 1951, in La Crosse, Roger was the cherished son of Wilbert Wick and Dorothy Schoen. He was a light in the lives of those who knew him, and his departure leaves an indelible void in the hearts of many.
Roger's journey through life was marked by genuine kindness and an unwavering commitment to his family and community. He graduated from Aquinas High School, where he laid the foundation for a life dedicated to hard work and service. Roger worked alongside his father at Wicks Well Drilling, where he learned the values of diligence and integrity. His passion for his work led him to become a skilled Journeyman Plumber and Fitter, a profession in which he excelled and earned the respect and trust of those around him.
In 1998, Roger married the love of his life, Carol Johnson, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in La Crosse. Together, they crafted a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Roger and Carol enjoyed traveling, visiting casinos, and camping at Lake Neshonoc in West Salem, WI. Their Friday date nights were sacred, spent watching Gunsmoke, Jeopardy, and the news, a testament to their deep bond and shared joys.
Roger was a man of many passions. An avid NASCAR enthusiast, he never missed a race and was a loyal supporter of Packer and Badger football. He was a regular at the "Gas Station Gang" meetups at Larry’s Gas Station in La Crosse, where he was known for his warmth, humor, and love for whiskey and buffalo games at the casinos. Roger was a super fun guy, whose infectious spirit brightened the lives of those around him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol; his stepson, Jason, and his girlfriend, Jeanie Stevens; grandson Cody and his girlfriend, Kennedy Skogen. He leaves behind his loving sisters, Mary Kolkind and Julie (Bob) Bronkhorst; sisters-in-law Vera Wick, Sharon (Lee) Goeke, and Paula Johnson Woolley; brother-in-law Steven (Roxie) Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews who adored him. He is predeceased by his brothers, Butch and Tom Wick, as well as his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Spencer and Janice Johnson, along with numerous aunts and uncles.
Roger’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Benedictine Manor for the compassionate care they provided over the past eight years. Special thanks are also extended to Dr. Lee and her hospice care team at Gundersen for their kindness to Roger and his family during his final days.
A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Roger's memory. Though he is no longer with us, the warmth, love, and laughter he brought into our lives will remain forever etched in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Roger’s honor to a charity of your choice, a fitting tribute to a man who lived his life with generosity and grace. Roger L. Wick will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the stories and memories shared by those who loved him.
