Roger drew his last breath surrounded by the warmth and love of family at his daughter’s home, departing this life of natural causes. His legacy is a testament to a life filled with love, resilience, and unwavering commitment to those he held dear. Born in Rockford, Illinois, on June 6, 1932, Roger was the cherished son of Harvey and Elsie (Stieg) Mitchell. He grew up alongside his brother and sister, forming bonds that would deeply shape his lifelong values of family and togetherness. Roger was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, and his memory will forever remain with those who loved him. Roger’s life was a tapestry woven with dedication to his family, friends, and community. A man of integrity and kindness, he leaves behind a remarkable legacy through his five beloved children: Kathie Lake of Park Falls, WI; Tom Mitchell of Belvidere, IL; Gretchen Mitchell of Bloomington, IL; Becky Loos, and her husband Mark, of Belvidere, IL; and Wade Mitchell, and his wife Anke, of Red Lake, Ontario. Each of his children carries forward his values and spirit, ensuring that his legacy will continue to inspire future generations. Roger was a proud grandfather to 20 grandchildren, each of whom was a source of immense pride and joy. His life was further enriched by the laughter and love of 30 great-grandchildren. Roger cherished every moment spent with his family, delighting in their achievements and celebrating their milestones. Roger’s journey was marked by his unwavering dedication to service, compassion, and community. As a respected veteran, he found camaraderie and purpose at the VFW Post 1461, where his memory will be honored with a service on April 24, 2026, at 12:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to gather at 1310 W. Lincoln Ave., Belvidere, IL 61008, to celebrate the life of a remarkable man who touched so many lives with his kindness and generosity. In this time of mourning, we remember Roger not only for the life he led but for the love he shared. His legacy is a reminder of the power of family, the strength of community, and the importance of living a life of purpose. As we bid farewell to a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, we take comfort in knowing that Roger’s spirit will continue to guide and inspire us.
