It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Roger Karl Walker, who departed this life surrounded by his loving family on August 28, 2026, after a courageous battle with illness. Born on March 20, 1980, in Newark, New Jersey, Roger was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew him. Roger was the cherished son of Nellie Walker and Tracy Williams. He was predeceased by his grandmothers, Lorraine G. Walker and Estelle J. Landry; his grandfather, Moses Williams; and his uncle, Roger Elder. He is survived by a devoted family who will carry his memory forward: Donte T. Nolan, Aniyah M. Walker, Khalil Rhone, Laila S. Gillette, and his beloved grandchildren, Kayden and Amiri. He is also survived by Tracy and JonQuea Walker, Davonte, Brandyn, and Abram Williams, Alexis Cogman, Noel Green; his grandparents John and Mary Grate; his loving godmother, Delores "Louise" Carter-Sowell; and his special cousin, Andre Ruggs. Roger's memory will also be cherished by his nephews, Tracy, Cayden, Zayod, and M’y'aire; nieces, Jordyn, Kylie, and Celani; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends. Roger's educational journey began in the Newark Public School system and continued at Job Corps in Edison, New Jersey, where he proudly earned his GED. He was a dedicated and hardworking man, building a career with Waste Management in Jersey City, New Jersey. Roger was known for his infectious humor and his ability to light up any room with laughter. His legacy as a jokester, dancer, fighter, and protector will be fondly remembered by those who were lucky enough to know him. He had a special gift for bringing joy to others and creating memories that will continue to be celebrated. Roger's love for music, dancing, and cooking was undeniable. He was especially renowned for his collard greens, a dish that will be missed by all who indulged in his culinary creations. His laughter, dancing, jokes, and unique personality were all integral parts of what made Roger the extraordinary person he was. A service to honor and celebrate Roger’s life will be held on September 5, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at NJ Re-entry, located at 936 Bergen Street, Newark, NJ 07112. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, in memory of Roger’s generous spirit. The family extends a special thank you to Delores "Louis" Carter-Sowell and Latisha for their unwavering support and love. Roger Karl Walker's life was a testament to the power of joy, love, and resilience. Though he has left this world, he will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
