Roger Harris

It is with deep sadness yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Roger Harris, a beloved partner, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Roger peacefully departed this world on April 29, 2026, at the age of 74, at New York-Presbyterian Allen Hospital.
Born on March 15, 1952, in Montgomery, Alabama, Roger was a beacon of warmth and kindness, a man shaped by the love of his parents, Joycelyn Williams and Mack Williams. Although he was predeceased by his parents, stepfather Albert Williams II, stepmother Bettye Williams, his beloved daughter Crystal Harris, and his siblings Bernetta Williams, Darren Williams, Willie James Dees, James Williams, and Gregory Williams, Roger’s legacy is carried forward by those who survive him.
Roger's journey led him to New York City, where he attended DeWitt Clinton High School and began a lifelong commitment to service and care. He found his professional calling at Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he dedicated many years as a valued member of the staff, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and patients alike.
For more than 40 years, Roger shared his life with his devoted partner, Cathy, creating a partnership filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. He leaves behind his daughter, Rogera Harris, stepdaughter, Shauni, and treasured granddaughter, Sani, who were the lights of his life.
Roger was a man of many talents and interests, known for his vibrant spirit and enthusiasm. As a DJ in the 1980s, his love for music brought joy and rhythm to all who had the pleasure of hearing him spin. His passion for cars and his remarkable ability to fix almost anything earned him the affectionate nickname "McGyver" among friends and family. His ingenuity and "handyman" soul were just as legendary as his kind heart and generous nature.
His surviving siblings from his mother's side include Patricia Slaughter of Montgomery, AL; Albert Williams III of Florida; Anthony Williams (Jacqueline) of Florida; Brenda Gosey (Jenera) of Delaware; Carl Williams of New York; Kevin Williams of New York; and Sharon Williams of Florida. From his father's side, he is survived by Bettye Williams of Pahoa, HI; Maxine Warner of Montgomery, AL; Albert Ellis (Teresa) of Montgomery, AL; Sandra Williams of Schenectady, NY; Emily Williams (Joseph) of Poughkeepsie, NY; and Darwin Williams (Bridget) of Lithonia, GA. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, each touched by his warmth and generosity.
A celebration of Roger's life will be held on May 21, 2026, at 6:00 PM at the George H. Weldon Funeral Home, located at 353 East 116th Street, New York, NY. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the many expressions of sympathy and the kindness shown by everyone who knew and loved Roger.
Roger Harris lived a life enriched by love, music, and the simple joy of being surrounded by family and friends. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
