Roger C. Cottingham

It is with both sadness and gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Roger G. Cottingham, who departed this world peacefully on September 18, 2026, at Mt. Sinai Hospital, New York, after a brief illness. Growing up in Center Moriches, New York, Roger was a cherished son, brother, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of cultural richness. The son of Garry and Ruth Cottingham, Roger was raised in a home that valued education and the arts. He carried these values with him throughout his life, beginning with his graduation from Center Moriches High School. Roger furthered his studies at Colby College and Brown University, where he developed a profound love for languages and the arts, majoring in French and immersing himself in the world of theater and music. Roger's passion for music was a constant thread throughout his life. He was a talented musician who played a variety of instruments with grace and joy. His contributions to his church and community organizations were many, as he often shared his talents in performances that uplifted and inspired those around him. Roger's deep appreciation for music and theater was rivaled only by his love for languages, and he was known for his fluency in several, with French being his particular favorite. Though Roger was predeceased by his beloved parents, Garry and Ruth Cottingham, their memory lived on through his stories and the values he embodied. He is survived by his brother, Mark Cottingham, who resides in Green Bay, Wisconsin. In accordance with Roger's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held. Roger will be laid to rest at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in his hometown of Center Moriches, New York, where he will be surrounded by the love and memories of those who knew him best. Roger will be remembered for his vibrant spirit, his love of learning, and his unwavering dedication to sharing the beauty of music and language with the world. His presence will be deeply missed, but the joy and love he brought into our lives will remain forever in our hearts.
