Rodger Allen Wheeler, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 22, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on September 30, 1943, in Norfolk, Virginia, Rodger was the cherished son of Rachel Ruth Daugherty and Ivey Gordon Wheeler. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Josephine Buck Wheeler, and his dear sisters, Carolyn, Jean, and Anne.
Rodger is survived by his loving sisters, Linda and Beverly, and his brother, Butch, all of whom held a special place in his heart. He leaves behind a legacy through his daughters, Angie Russo, Andrea Hollander, and Tracy Holloman, who will forever cherish the wisdom and warmth he imparted. His grandchildren, Zoe Hollander, Nat Hollander, Laura Dawson and husband Josh, Rachel Hercules and husband Sean, Joseph Russo, and Amy Nicole Kalb and husband Matt, remember him as a guiding light in their lives. Rodger was also blessed with four great-grandchildren—Aaliyah, Sean, Alana, and Luke—who brought immense joy to his later years.
Rodger spent over four decades working as a machine collator operator. His career started at Sturgis Newport Business Forms, where he was admired for his diligence and work ethic. He retired in 2010, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and camaraderie with his colleagues.
A man of many passions, Rodger was an avid genealogist who took great pleasure in exploring the rich tapestry of his family history. In his early years, he found solace and expression in singing and writing poetry, sharing his melodic voice and creative spirit with others during the CB Radio Craze Days. Known for his kindness and warm smile, Rodger had a unique ability to tell a story or crack a joke, brightening the days of all who knew him.
The celebration of Rodger's life will be held on June 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Huntington Mennonite Church, located at 785 Harpersville Road, Newport News, Virginia. Family and friends will gather to honor a remarkable man whose legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew him.
