In Loving Memory

Roderick Reynolds
December 10, 1951 — June 24, 2026
Roderick "Rick" Reynolds was born on December 10, 1952, in Birmingham, Alabama, to his loving, late parents, Lewis and Laura Reynolds. Raised in the close-knit community of Pratt City, Rick grew up alongside his siblings: Annette Gulley (deceased), Gwendolyn Reynolds (deceased), Diane Thomas, and Anthony Reynolds.
From a young age, Rick walked in faith. He confessed his belief in Christ and was baptized at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J. R. Walker. Later in life, he brought his devotion to Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. T. L. Lewis. Rick served his church community with immense pride as a Trustee and was appointed by Dr. Lewis as the Head of Security, earning the affectionate title of "Chief." Holding the mantle of a "Bethel Knight" was a responsibility he carried close to his heart.
Rick's journey was marked by academic pursuit, military honor, and a profound commitment to public safety:
He graduated from Western Olin High School in 1971, later attending Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas, before transferring to Alabama A&M University.
Before answering the call to serve his country, he worked as a supply teacher at Pratt Elementary School and labored in the Oak Grove Coal Mine. He then enlisted in the United States Army, serving with distinction as a Specialist 4 Military Police officer. During his tenure, his sharp skills and dedication earned him Achievement and Good Conduct Medals, Army Service and Overseas Service Ribbons, and badges as both a Sharpshooter and Marksman.
Following his honorable discharge, Rick relocated to Florida, joining the City of Jacksonville Police Department. He protected the citizens of West Jacksonville and left an indelible mark on local youth through the Youth Services Division. Whether serving as a School Resource Officer, a D.A.R.E. and G.R.E.A.T. officer, or even bringing joy as McGruff the Crime Dog, Rick's mission was to uplift the next generation. After retiring from the police force, he continued his protective service as a Court Security Officer contractor with the U.S. Marshal Services.
Outside of his uniform, Rick was a familiar, energetic sight in his neighborhood, running daily through the streets of the community he loved. He was a man driven by a pure passion for helping others, particularly young people, investing his time and energy to ensure they had the tools to succeed. The ripple effect of his quiet generosity and mentorship is immeasurable.
