It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Roderick Johnson, who departed this world peacefully on March 18, 2026, at the age of 90. Roderick was born on February 19, 1936, in the vibrant city of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to loving parents Pearl and Chefie Caceus, who predeceased him. Roderick's early years in Haiti laid the foundation for a life characterized by resilience, dedication, and a deep love for his community. He graduated from Ecole Jean Marie Guilloux in 1958, marking the beginning of a lifelong journey of learning and service. His passion for education and history was evident in his love of reading history books, which he delighted in sharing with his family and friends. In a partnership that spanned five remarkable decades, Roderick was the beloved husband of Mary, with whom he built a beautiful family. Together, they raised three wonderful children: daughters Lakinya Johnson and Sarah Johnson, and son Johnny Johnson. Roderick's legacy extends to the next generations, as he was the proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren and the cherished great-grandfather to 3 great-grandchildren. Roderick's siblings, Ethel Leflair, Pattie Dawsone, and Felipe Johnson, shared in his life's journey, providing support and companionship throughout the years. His deep-rooted connection to family was a testament to the strength and love that defined his character. Roderick was a man of action and compassion, actively contributing to the welfare of his people in Haiti. His commitment to his homeland was unwavering, particularly evident in his efforts to aid in the rebuilding of Haiti following the devastating earthquake in 2010. His generous donations and hands-on involvement in relief efforts were a beacon of hope and resilience for many. A man of many talents, Roderick found joy in singing and dancing, often filling the room with his vibrant spirit and infectious laughter. He cherished the simple pleasures of life and shared his joy with all who knew him. Roderick's life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and dedication. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and unwavering commitment to his family and community. Though he will be deeply missed, Roderick's spirit will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to know him. A celebration of Roderick's life will be held at a later date, where friends and family will gather to honor his memory and the indelible mark he left on the world. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to organizations supporting Haiti's ongoing development and recovery efforts, continuing Roderick's mission to uplift his beloved homeland.
