Roderick Arthur

February 20, 1930 — September 23, 2026

It is with both sadness and gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Roderick Arthur. Born on February 20, 1930, in Milton, Massachusetts, Roderick was a beacon of optimism and warmth throughout his 96 years. He passed away peacefully at Milton Hospital, surrounded by the comfort and love of a life richly lived. Roderick was the beloved son of the late John Arthur and Mary (MacDonald) Arthur. Raised in Milton, he graduated from Milton High School before earning his degree from Northeastern University. Roderick proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. A dedicated educator and administrator, Roderick spent much of his professional career as the Assistant Athletic Director at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he mentored and inspired countless student-athletes. Following his retirement, he continued to share his love for conversation and community while working with the Quirk Auto Auction. Roderick's family was the heart of his life. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Arthur. He is survived by his children: Anne Lynch, Paul Arthur and his wife Wendy, Kevin Arthur, and Michael Arthur and his wife Beth. He was the proud grandfather of Kevin Lynch (Chealsey), Dianne Borneo (Joseph), Brian Lynch (Victoria), Cameron Arthur (Christina), Emily Arthur, Allison Arthur, Kristin Arthur, Thomas Arthur, and Abby Arthur, and the adoring great-grandfather of five. He was also blessed with the dear friendship of Claire Foy, whose companionship brought immense joy to his later years. An avid golfer and a member of the Boston Bowl Bowling League, Roderick was above all a genuine "people person." Fascinated by everyone’s story, he had an extraordinary ability to connect with people from all walks of life. His eternal optimism and resilient spirit guided him through life's challenges, leaving a legacy of warmth, kindness, and humor.
