September 18, 1988 — April 28, 2026

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Roderick Demond Lane, who departed this life on April 28, 2026. Roderick was born on September 18, 1988, in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, and from that moment, he began touching the lives of those around him with his warmth, humor, and genuine spirit. Roderick was the cherished son of Gwennette McGrew and the late Frank Lane. He was a loving father to his two beautiful daughters, Zariah Lane, age 7, and Zaniyah Lane, age 3, whom he shared with their mother, Zera Stanley. He is survived by his devoted mother, Gwennette, his brother Broderick Duane Lane, and his sister Bessie LaShon Lane. Roderick's extended family includes his caring aunts, Gladys Byrd, Sandra Lane, and Mamie, his uncles, Melvin Barlow, John Coleman, and Woodrow Davis, as well as his great aunt, Earnestine Turnage, and countless cousins, including Dan (Anna) McGrew and Alton (Velma) McGrew, all of whom will dearly miss him. Roderick's education began at the MS Job Corps, where he proudly earned his high school diploma in 2008. He furthered his studies at Co-Lin, gaining certification in welding, a skill he carried with pride throughout his career. At the time of his passing, Roderick was employed with the United Postal Service, where his colleagues remember him for his unwavering dedication and infectious laughter. To know Roderick was to love him. Never one to meet a stranger, he had an extraordinary gift for turning acquaintances into lifelong friends. He possessed a unique ability to make others laugh even in the most challenging of times, often making you mad only to lighten the moment with his humor in the next breath. Roderick never seemed to have a bad day, and his loving and genuine soul left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. His absence will be deeply felt, yet his spirit will continue to bring smiles to those who knew him. A celebration of Roderick's life will be held on May 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Bethel MB Church, located at 3183 Ashley Road, Hazlehurst, Mississippi. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love, kind words, phone calls, and texts during this difficult time. They ask for your continued thoughts and prayers as they navigate this sudden and tragic loss. Though Roderick has departed from this world, he remains forever in our hearts, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience. May his soul rest in peace, and may we all find comfort in the cherished memories he leaves behind.
