His family extended to a network of aunts—Gladys Byrd, Sandra Lane, and Mamie—and uncles, Melvin Barlow, John (Patricia) Coleman, and Woodrow Davis, as well as a great-aunt, Earnestine Turnage, and great-uncles, Dan (Anna) McGrew and Alton (Velma) McGrew. Roderick was a proud graduate of MS Job Corps, where he earned his high school diploma, and he furthered his education by obtaining a welding certificate from Co-Lin Community College. A devoted father, Roderick found his greatest joy in spending time with his beloved daughters, Zariah and Zaniyah Lane.
