With heavy hearts but profound gratitude for having shared in his remarkable journey, the family of Roderick Demond Lane announces his passing on April 28, 2026. Born on September 18, 1988, in the close-knit community of Hazlehurst, Mississippi, Roderick’s life was a testament to love, laughter, and the enduring bonds of family and friendship.
Roderick was the cherished son of Gwennette McGrew and the late Frank Lane, who preceded him in death. He grew up surrounded by the warmth and support of a large and loving family, including his siblings, Broderick Duane Lane and Bessie LaShon Lane, who stood by him through life’s many adventures. His family extended to a network of aunts—Gladys Byrd, Sandra Lane, and Mamie—and uncles, Melvin Barlow, John (Patricia) Coleman, and Woodrow Davis, as well as a great-aunt, Earnestine Turnage, and great-uncles, Dan (Anna) McGrew and Alton (Velma) McGrew. Each of these relationships enriched Roderick’s life and contributed to the man he became.
Roderick was a proud graduate of MS Job Corps, where he earned his high school diploma, and he furthered his education by obtaining a welding certificate from Co-Lin Community College. His diligent work ethic led him to a fulfilling career with the United States Postal Service, where he was employed at the time of his untimely demise. Roderick’s colleagues will remember him for his unwavering dedication and his ability to bring lightness and laughter even to the busiest days.
A devoted father, Roderick found his greatest joy in spending time with his beloved daughters, Zariah and Zaniyah Lane. Every moment shared with them was a cherished memory, and their presence in his life was a source of immense pride and happiness. He left a legacy of love for them that will forever be their guiding star.
Roderick’s life was marked by his passion for fishing, an activity that allowed him to connect with nature and find peace. But perhaps his most memorable trait was his infectious laughter, which could lift spirits and bring smiles to those around him even on the darkest days. He had a gift for making others laugh, a quality that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The family will honor Roderick’s life on May 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM, in a service held at Bethel MB Church, 3183 Ashley Road, Hazlehurst, Mississippi, 39083. Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate the life of a truly remarkable man who touched countless lives with his kindness and humor.
As the family navigates this difficult time, they extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone for the calls, texts, visits, kind words, and most importantly, prayers. The outpouring of love and support has been a source of comfort, and they are deeply appreciative of the community that has surrounded them.
