Roderick Armstead Johnson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Roderick Armstead Johnson, a cherished soul whose laughter and warmth touched everyone he met. Roderick was born on July 30, 1962, in Flint, Michigan, and lived a life full of love, humor, and generosity until his journey ended on September 13, 2026. Roderick was the beloved son of Dolphine Johnson and William Brown, and he carried with him the love and lessons of his cherished grandparents, Armstead and Peccola Rhodes. Throughout his life, Roderick honored the memory of those who preceded him: his parents; his aunts, Marion Matthews and Lena Sue Murray; his sister, Iva Johnson; his cousin, Peccola Taylor; and his niece, Jacqueline Johnson. Roderick's life was a testament to the power of community and connection. He was known for taking on various odd jobs throughout the community, always willing to lend a hand to those in need. His incredible sense of humor, love of singing, and passion for good food brought joy to all who knew him. Whether it was sharing a hearty laugh, belting out a favorite tune, or savoring a delicious meal, Roderick had a way of turning everyday moments into cherished memories. He leaves behind a rich tapestry of family and friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts. Among those who mourn his passing are his devoted cousins, Nora Perez, Jerry Brackett, Sharon Murray and Clay Howell ; his nieces and nephews, Rowena (Damiann) Hopkins Ford, Michael Aiken, Elyse Taylor, Kolly Adebanjo, Jacqueline Taylor-Goodman, Darryl Taylor Jr., Luke Harris, and Danesia Taylor; as well as a multitude of great-nieces and great-nephews, including Amerion Michael Aiken. Though Roderick had no grandchildren or great-grandchildren, his legacy of love and laughter will live on through the many lives he touched. A celebration of Roderick's life will take place on September 15, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Legacy Funeral Home, located at 1009 E Stewart Ave. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a man whose light shone brightly in every room he entered. Roderick’s life was filled with laughter, music, family, food, and countless memories. Though his physical presence will be deeply missed, the jokes he told, the songs he sang, and the memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him. Roderick will be truly missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished. Rest peacefully, Roderick. Your laughter and memories will live on in our hearts forever.
