It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Roddy Dunnell, a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, who departed this life peacefully at his home on April 23, 2026, at the age of 69. Born on July 24, 1956, in Edinburgh, Texas, Roddy was a cherished son of the late Jimmy and Elaine Dunnell. His legacy of kindness and warmth will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Roddy was a proud graduate of Edinburg High School, where he began to cultivate a lifelong passion for learning and discovery. He went on to attend Alvin Junior College, where he studied mechanical engineering before furthering his education at Texas A&M University. His academic pursuits laid a strong foundation for a lifetime of curiosity and creativity.
Roddy was a dedicated member of the St. Martin De Porress Catholic Church, where he was actively involved for over five years. His faith was a guiding light in his life, and his commitment to his community was evident in his generous spirit and willingness to help others.
A man of many talents, Roddy was known for his affinity for sports, particularly his unwavering support for the Dallas Cowboys. His enthusiasm for the game was infectious, and he was often heard cheering, "Go Cowboys!" beyond game days. Roddy also had a remarkable talent for creating stained glass art, a passion that brought vibrant colors and light into the lives of those around him. His love for gardening was evident in the lush, serene oasis he cultivated at his home. Additionally, he was a skilled woodworker, crafting intricate elements that adorned his residence, a testament to his eye for detail and craftsmanship.
Roddy’s adventurous spirit was reflected in his love for travel, scuba diving, and camping, activities that allowed him to explore the beauty and diversity of the world. His famous saying, "Well, I must be out having fun, so leave a message," perfectly encapsulated his zest for life and his infectious joy.
Roddy is survived by his brothers, Michael Dunnell and his wife Janet Howard, Corey Dunnell and his wife Gloria Tellas, his sister Patrice Dunnell, and his nephew James Dunnell along with his great-niece Brooklyn Dunnell. He also leaves behind nieces Morghan Gray and Denelle Hebert, and her husband Chip Hebert, and Mallory Ottinger who will all deeply miss his presence but cherish the memories they shared.
A service to celebrate Roddy’s life will be held on June 3, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the St. Martin De Porress Catholic Church, located at 230 Post Oak Drive, Dripping Springs, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, an organization close to Roddy’s heart.
