With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Rochelle Mayes, affectionately known as "Rasheena," on April 25, 2026. Born on January 29, 1956, in Trenton, NJ, Rasheena was a beacon of light and laughter to everyone around her. Her life was a beautiful tapestry of love, resilience, and joy, woven through the vibrant communities she was a part of. Rasheena was the beloved daughter of June and Bertha Drummer, who preceded her in death, alongside her cherished son, Kay Kay. Despite facing many challenges, she bravely battled recovery and illnesses, never losing her witty spirit and sense of humor that endeared her to so many. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Ebony Kelsey Owens, who was her pride and joy, and her loving husband, Gerald, who stood by her side through thick and thin. Rasheena embraced Gerald's children as her own, nurturing a blended family filled with love and laughter. Her legacy of warmth and kindness will continue to live on through her 13 grandchildren Lil Chris, Bri Bri, Ty Ty, Chris, Kay Kay, Krissy, Kulthum, Isha, Ishmail and 4 great-grandchildren, who were blessed with her boundless love and wisdom. Rasheena shared a special bond with her siblings, Jazzy, Tisha, Bernadette, and her brother, Mumbai. Their shared memories of growing up together in Newark, NJ, where she graduated from Barringer High School, are a testament to the deep familial ties that Rasheena cherished above all. Her best friend, Tu Tu, was a constant presence in Rasheena's life, sharing countless adventures and moments of joy. Her love for the outdoors was infectious, and she often found peace and solace in nature's embrace. Her wit and love for comedy brought smiles and laughter to all who were fortunate enough to know her. A celebration of Rasheena's life will be held on May 1, 2026, at 3:30 PM at Family Services United, located at 349 Jouvet St, Roselle, NJ 07203. As we gather to honor her memory, we remember her strength and the incredible love she shared with us all. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported Rasheena during her courageous battle, and they wish to share a special message: "We know you fought til you couldn't anymore; for that, we are all proud of you." In this time of sorrow, let us hold onto the joy and laughter that Rasheena brought into our lives. Her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
