Robin Hammonds
September 3, 1955 — August 3, 2026
Robin Hammonds, a beloved sister, educator, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in O'Fallon, IL. Born on September 3, 1955, in Starkville, MS, Robin was the beloved daughter of the late Rev. Dr. Obie Rush and the late Mrs. Nellie Kate (Watt) Rush. Her life was a testament to her deep love for her family, her students, and her faith.
Robin's early years were spent in East St. Louis, IL, where she graduated from East St. Louis Sr. High School in 1973. Following her passion for music and education, she dedicated her career to nurturing young minds as a music educator in the Cahokia School District 187. Over the years, she touched countless lives at E. Morris Elementary, Penniman Elementary, and Centreville Elementary, retiring in 2014 after an illustrious career.
Robin's love for music extended beyond the classroom. She was an enthusiastic member of the Christian Women of the New Wave and found immense joy in hearing the preached word of God. Her love for theatre and travel was evident in her annual trips to Branson, MO, where she delighted in the vibrant theatrical productions and shows.
Those who knew Robin will remember her for her affectionate smile and her genuine love for people. Her calm manner and warm presence made her the heart of every gathering, and she was famously known for capturing precious family moments with her huge video camera at every event.
Robin is survived by her loving sisters, Mrs. Jacqueline K. Davis and Ms. Felicia Rush-Taylor. Her family, along with the many friends and students whose lives she touched, will forever cherish her memory.
A service to celebrate Robin's life will be held on August 15, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Baptist Church, located at 1500 Bond Avenue. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of the donor's choice, in honor of Robin's generous spirit and her lifelong commitment to giving.
Robin Hammonds leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and music. Her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be dearly missed.
