Roberta Russell
December 20, 1966 — May 16, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Roberta Russell, a cherished wife, loving mother, and an inspiring friend to many. Roberta left this world on May 16, 2026, at the age of 59, after a brave battle with breast cancer. Her unwavering strength and spirited fight against the disease were a testament to her resilience and determination.
Roberta was born on December 20, 1966, in Rockford, Iowa, to Wilma and Lyle Witzel. She was a bright and diligent student, graduating fourth in her class from Rockford High School in 1985. Her academic pursuits led her to the University of Northern Iowa, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Financial Management with high honors in May 1989.
Roberta's career in insurance underwriting took her across various cities, including Des Moines, Salt Lake City, St. Louis, and finally Boise, where she worked with dedication for Blue Cross Blue Shield, St. Lukes, and Morton and Company. Her colleagues remember her not only for her professional acumen but also for the warmth and positivity she brought to the workplace.
In 2002, Roberta married the love of her life, Alan Russell, in a beautiful ceremony in Hawaii. Together, they raised a wonderful daughter, Adrienne, who was the light of Roberta’s life. Roberta’s role as a mother was one she cherished deeply, and she was always a supportive presence, cheering Adrienne on in her various sports and endeavors.
Roberta was a woman of many passions and interests. She found joy in the simplicity of life's pleasures—biking, hiking, and going barefoot in the grass. Her garden was a testament to her love for nature, especially her vibrant zinnias. A lover of contemporary art and cats, Roberta’s free-spirited and outgoing personality endeared her to everyone she met. Her home was a haven of laughter, warmth, and encouragement, traits that defined her character and the legacy she leaves behind.
Predeceased by her beloved parents, Wilma and Lyle, and her sister, Judy Hilgendorf, Roberta is survived by her devoted husband, Alan, and her cherished daughter, Adrienne. Though she did not have grandchildren, her nurturing spirit touched many young lives, leaving a lasting impact.
To celebrate the life of Roberta Russell, a memorial service will be held on June 14, 2026, at 4:00 PM at The Rookery in Kathryn Albertson Park, located at 1001 Americana Blvd., Boise, Idaho. Friends and family are invited to gather to honor her memory and share the stories and smiles she so generously gave during her time with us.
Roberta’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and an indomitable spirit that will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
