Roberta Rambert, affectionately known to many as Berta, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, at Interfaith Medical Center, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and warmth that will forever be cherished by all who were graced by her presence. Born on February 20, 1944, in the vibrant borough of Brooklyn, NY, Berta was the beloved daughter of Elise Rambert and George Henderson.
Raised in the heart of Brooklyn, she received her education through the Brooklyn Public School System, where she formed the foundation of her lifelong love for learning and community. A proud Brooklynite through and through, Berta dedicated much of her life to enriching the lives of those around her.
Berta was a cherished member of the Centerlight Adult Daycare for over twenty-five years, where she was known for her infectious smile and pleasant demeanor. Her days at Centerlight were filled with joy as she engaged in arts and crafts, bingo, and her favorite pastime—word search puzzles. These activities not only brought her happiness but also allowed her to brighten the lives of those around her with her warmth and creativity. Her ability to transform simple bingo prizes into cherished holiday gifts was a testament to her thoughtfulness and generosity.
Her home in Brooklyn was a sanctuary of love and warmth. Berta took great pride in welcoming all who entered with her radiant smile, making everyone feel like a cherished member of her extended family. She had a unique gift for making people feel seen and appreciated, a quality that endeared her to many.
Berta was preceded in death by her parents, Elise Rambert and George Henderson, her siblings Marie Bryant, Walter, James, Eugene, Sheldon, Jerome, Ronald Rambert, and Sidney McCleary, as well as her beloved grandchild, Ebony Youngblood. Her memory is carried forward by her three devoted daughters, Wanda Banister (Gregory), Sheline Hunt, and Tonya Rambert. Her legacy of love continues through her grandchildren Sabrina Rivera, Alicia Banister, Deshon McCoy, Kenya, Laquana, Tirzah Rambert, Jasmine Tharpe, Kenneth Rogers, and Terrell Rambert, along with twenty-one great-grandchildren and twelve great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Eric Rambert, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and beloved relatives and friends.
A service to honor and celebrate Berta's life will be held on June 10, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, located at 230 Decatur Street, Brooklyn, NY 11233. Friends and family will gather to remember the life and legacy of a woman who wore her crown with grace and dignity. In the words of her family, "Her life was full of great family and friends. She had many good times. Throughout her life, she had such a grand time. She laughed, she loved and was loved by many."
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love, concern, and kindness shown to them during this time of bereavement. A special thanks to Centerlight Adult Day for their unwavering support and to Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church for their generosity.
