Roberta Lynn Monaghan
October 30, 1971 — June 19, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Roberta Lynn Monaghan, who departed this life on June 19, 2026. Born on October 30, 1971, in Portland, Oregon, Roberta was the cherished daughter of Bob and Daisy Monaghan. She graced this world with her indomitable spirit and unwavering courage, leaving a legacy of love and resilience.
Diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at the tender age of five, Roberta faced her challenges with an inspiring determination. She chose to live life on her own terms, embracing each day with joy and gratitude. Her journey was marked by a remarkable strength, most notably when she underwent a double lung transplant in 2001, gifted by her then-husband David Berg and her cousin Rachel Monaghan.
Roberta's life was enriched by the love and support of her family. She is survived by her devoted parents, Bob and Daisy, and her dear brother, Kevin. She shared her life with two loving husbands, David Berg, who selflessly donated a lobe of his lung to her, and Joseph Christenson, who stood by her side with unwavering love and support.
A proud alumnus of Roosevelt High School, Class of 1989, Roberta furthered her education at Western Oregon, graduating in 1993. Her passion for learning was a lifelong pursuit, and she continually sought to expand her knowledge and experiences, ever curious about the world around her.
Roberta’s warmth, kindness, and tenacity touched all who knew her. She was a beacon of hope and a testament to the beauty of a life lived with purpose and resilience. Her family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at OHSU, whose compassionate care provided comfort to Roberta in her final days.
A celebration of Roberta’s life will be held on July 18, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Holman’s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, an organization close to Roberta's heart.
Roberta Lynn Monaghan will forever be remembered for her courage, her love of learning, and her extraordinary ability to find joy and hope in the face of adversity. Her spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
