November 21, 1946 - April 12, 2026
With deep sorrow and heartfelt remembrance, we announce the passing of Roberta Hochberg, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, educator, and friend. Roberta peacefully departed this world on April 12, 2026, at her home, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter that will forever be cherished by those who knew her.
Roberta was born on November 21, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York, to John and Mary Brownfield. The youngest of two children, she grew up surrounded by love and warmth that she carried with her throughout her life. Roberta was predeceased by her parents and her dear brother, Joseph Brownfield.
In 1970, Roberta married the love of her life, Sheldon Hochberg, in a beautiful ceremony in Brooklyn. Together, they embarked on a journey of love and partnership that spanned over five decades. Their union was blessed with two wonderful children, Evan Hochberg and Allison Rosen, who were raised in Silver Spring, Maryland, before the family moved to Rockville. Roberta was a devoted mother-in-law to Jonathan Rosen and Heather Hochberg, and a doting grandmother to Zachary and Brooke Rosen, whom she adored with all her heart.
A proud alumna of Walter Johnson, Roberta graduated in 1958 before attending Barnard College in New York City. Her passion for education led her to a fulfilling 35-year career as a public school teacher, where she was known for her exceptional mentoring skills and her commitment to supporting students in need. Her impact as an educator was profound, and her dedication was evident in the many lives she touched.
Beyond her professional achievements, Roberta was a vibrant soul with a zest for life. An avid puzzle solver, she relished the challenge of a good crossword or Sudoku, always ready to tackle the next brain teaser with enthusiasm. Her adventurous spirit took her to every continent, traveling the world and embracing the rich tapestry of cultures and experiences it had to offer.
Roberta's quick wit and warm smile were her trademarks, and her ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued was a gift she shared generously. Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and her laughter was a beacon of joy that brightened the lives of all who crossed her path.
To honor Roberta's memory, a private funeral ceremony will be held at the family's request. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association, an organization close to Roberta's heart.
As we remember Roberta, we carry her spirit with us, forever warmed by the light she brought into our lives. Her family wishes to express their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time and asks that you keep Roberta in your thoughts and prayers as she embarks on her eternal journey.
"Forever in our hearts."
