Robert Wilkins, a man whose life was a testament to love, dedication, and community, passed away peacefully at his daughter's home on September 22, 2026. Born in Memphis, Tennessee on June 16, 1925, Robert's journey through life was one of hard work, laughter, and abundant love.
He was the cherished son of John and Rosie Wilkins and shared a remarkable 75-year marriage with his beloved wife, Willia Malone. They married on November 17, 1947, in Casey, Mississippi, and together they raised six children, building a legacy that would touch countless lives. Although Robert is predeceased by his parents, wife, children, and siblings, he leaves behind a loving family that includes his daughter, sons, 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, who continue to honor his memory.
Robert proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945, stationed in North Carolina, where he reached the rank of Private. His service to his country was recognized in 2026 with an Honorary Veteran Recognition of Military Service, a testament to his dedication and bravery.
A master of his craft, Robert worked as a self-employed professional concrete finisher and bricklayer for 75 years, retiring in 2001. Known for laying the best concrete in the South, his work was both admired and respected by all who had the pleasure of witnessing it.
Beyond his professional life, Robert was an active member of the Lakeview Temple Church of God and Christ, where his faith and community spirit shone brightly. His passion for gardening was well-known, as he tended to his vegetable garden with love and care, sharing his harvest of tomatoes, corn, and more with family and neighbors alike.
Robert's quick wit, warm smile, and knack for storytelling left an indelible mark on those around him. His ability to lighten the mood with jokes and his gift for storytelling brought joy and laughter to the hearts of many. His presence was a blessing, and his legacy will continue to inspire and uplift.
A service to celebrate Robert's extraordinary life will be held on October 3, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Lakeview Community Temple Church of God and Christ, located at 4999 Elvis Presley Blvd, Memphis, TN 38116. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to a charity of their choice, honoring Robert's generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
Robert Wilkins will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His life was a beautiful example of kindness, dedication, and love, and he will always be remembered fondly.
