Robert Taft Lomas
September 18, 1956 — June 22, 2026
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Robert Taft Lomas on June 22, 2026. Rob departed this world peacefully at Hereford Nursing and Rehab after a lengthy illness, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience.
Born on September 18, 1956, in Hereford, Texas, to Dennis and Joyce Lomas, Rob grew up surrounded by the open skies and fertile lands of the Texas plains. He was the cherished brother of Larry, his son Jake Lomas and the adored son of his parents and grandparents, all of whom predeceased him. Despite these losses, Rob's spirit remained unbroken, finding strength and comfort in the family he built.
Rob's life was a tapestry woven with diverse experiences and passions. After graduating from Hereford High School in 1975, he pursued his love for agriculture by earning an Ag Business degree from West Texas State University. His career began on his grandad's farm in Hereford, instilling in him a deep appreciation for hard work and the simple joys of life. This was followed by a successful tenure in the newspaper business, first in Dallas and later at Bill Airforce Base in California, where he crafted stories that informed and inspired. Eventually, Rob returned to his roots in Texas, running a newspaper in Alvord before settling back in Hereford to start a lawn service, where he worked until his retirement in 2020.
A proud member of Phi Delta Theta at WT and an attendee of First Methodist Church, His quick wit and playful spirit were well-known, often challenging friends and family to games with a twinkle in his eye and witty jokes.
Rob's heart found its true home with his high school sweetheart, Lesley. Life's unpredictable journey brought them back together, culminating in a beautiful marriage on December 6, 2014. His family includes daughters Jacklyn Johnston, Jacy Tucker, Jennifer Lambert, and son James Lomas, alongside several grandchildren
His love for the outdoors was evident in his passions—fishing, gardening, and tending to his pets Lily, Yeti and Zeus, and the cats. Rob cherished working alongside Lesley in their gardens, finding peace and fulfillment in nature's embrace.
In honoring Rob's memory, a memorial service will be held on July 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM at First Methodist Church, located at 501 North Main Street with Pastor Lupe Acevedo officiating. The family invites those who knew Rob to join them in celebrating his life and legacy.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Deaf Smith County Humane Society, Hereford Rehab and Nursing Home and Samaritan Hospice.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Hereford Rehab and Nursing, Samaritan Hospice, and the dedicated doctors and nurses at Hereford Regional Medical Hospital for their care and support during Rob's final days.
Rob Lomas will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and treasured friend. His legacy of warmth, humor, and kindness will forever resonate in the hearts of all who knew him.
