Robert Rocco Abbate, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 28, 1937, in Hartford, Connecticut, Robert was the cherished son of the late Rocco and Rose (Petrosse) Abbate. He was predeceased by his dear sister, Margaret Abbate. Robert is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Judith Abbate, who stood by his side through life's many adventures. Together, they built a family that includes their children: Linda and her husband David Bukowy, Brenda Abbate, Sandra Miles, and Deborah and her husband Simon Foy. His legacy continues through his grandchildren Robert and his wife Ashley Bukowy, David and his wife Alley Lynch, Andrew Miles and his fiance Samantha Westwood, and Lacie and her husband Pierce Radcliffe. Robert also leaves behind his great-grandchildren Emma, Sophia, and Lucy (and one on the way) Bukowy; Dawson "Buuba" Lynch; and Lily, Sophie, Rudi, Indigo, and Fox Radcliffe, who brought him immense joy and pride. Robert's life was one of service and dedication. He proudly served in the Army National Guard for six years, embodying the spirit of duty and commitment. His professional journey included meaningful work at Royal Typewriter, Aetna, and his father's cherished establishment, the Hockanum Diner. Beyond his career, Robert was a pillar in the community, volunteering for the Town of East Hartford and Homes Regional Hospital in Melbourne, Florida. An avid golfer, Robert found joy in the sport both on and off the course. He volunteered at a local golf course and organized annual golf trips with his close friends, a tradition that brought laughter and camaraderie. His love for the New York Yankees and watching golf on television provided countless hours of enjoyment. Robert's warm personality and genuine love for his family were evident in every interaction. He cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, fostering bonds that will endure in their hearts forever. His friends, Bob Ramage, John Carter, and Greg Jim Barnes, treasured their coffee time gatherings, where stories and laughter were shared. In honor of his memory, a private funeral ceremony will be held. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause close to Robert's heart, located in Memphis, TN. Robert Rocco Abbate's life was a testament to love, dedication, and community spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of kindness and warmth will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
