Robert Lee Pratt “Uncle Dank”

Robert, a cherished member of our community, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones. Born on February 22, 1943, in Malvern, North Carolina, he was the beloved son of the late Roosevelt and Cora Lee Pratt. His journey through life was marked by a deep sense of compassion and service to others. Robert was raised in a loving environment, both by his birth parents and his adopted parents, George and Sweetie Mae Thornton. He was predeceased by his parents, his adopted parents, his brothers James and Alexander Pratt, and his sisters Louvenia Mansfield, Thomasine Thornton, Linda Thornton, and Shirley Harris. He is survived by his devoted siblings: Lucy Pratt, Ida Causey, Mary Posson, Marjorie Martin, George T. Thornton, James Thornton, and Bruce Thornton, who will all deeply feel his absence. Though Robert had no grandchildren or great-grandchildren, he was a beloved "Uncle Dank" to many who knew him. His formal education in North Carolina paved the way for a fulfilling career in the construction business, a field he was dedicated to until he became disabled. Despite his disability, Robert continued to enrich the lives of those around him with his remarkable spirit and generosity. Known for his love of cooking and caring for his family, Robert's kitchen was always a place of warmth and comfort. He was a familiar sight riding his bike around the neighborhood, always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. His kindness and willingness to help with whatever needed doing left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. A service celebrating Robert's life will be held at New Birth Family Church, located at 230 South Academy Street, Glassboro, NJ 08028, on September 5, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor the life of a man who gave so freely of himself to others. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting Robert's generous spirit and lifelong dedication to helping others. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Serenity Hospice for the love and care they provided during Robert's final days. Robert's gentleness, humility, and selflessness will never be forgotten. His life was a testament to the power of kindness and community, and his memory will continue to inspire us all.
