With deep sorrow and profound respect, we announce the passing of Robert McCall Hilleary, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who left this world on July 8, 2026. Born on August 20, 1934, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Bob was a beacon of kindness, integrity, and faith to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Bob was the beloved son of Walter Eugene Hilleary and Mildred McCall Hilleary Smouse, and he is now reunited with them and his brother, Dick McCall Hilleary, in eternal rest. He leaves behind his devoted wife of over 70 years, Margaret Weaver Hilleary, with whom he shared a beautiful life since their wedding on October 8, 1955. Their enduring love and companionship were a testament to their unwavering commitment to each other. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Sheryl Hilleary Heinicka (Kevin), Robert D. Hilleary (Mary), and John Thomas “Tom” Hilleary (Deborah), who carry forward his values and principles. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Kelly Heinicka Conklin, Rebecca Heinicka Potts, Kathryn E. Hilleary, Leslie D. Hilleary, and Anna L. Hilleary, as well as his three great-grandsons and four great-granddaughters, who brought him immense joy. A proud graduate of Johnstown High School, Bob went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Navy. From 1954 to 1956, he was active duty, serving on the USS Lowry as a Radarman. He continued his service in the Navy Reserves for additional years as a Radarman on the aircraft P-2V Neptunes. He studied at the University of Rochester for two years while working full time to support his family. Bob built a remarkable career in the defense industry, working as a subcontract administrator before retiring from Raytheon in 1997. His work took him across the United States and abroad to Denmark, Switzerland, and Italy. Despite his demanding schedule, Bob remained an active and dedicated member of the Anona United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Jaycees, as well as the Toastmasters. An avid sailor, Bob enjoyed sailing Irondequoit Bay in Rochester, New York, as well as the Gulf of Mexico and Tampa Bay. He had a fondness for aviation, flying as crew on the P-2V Neptunes and obtaining his student pilots license. Bob's passions extended to supporting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Tampa Bay Rays. He delighted in attending games whenever his travels allowed, always maintaining a vibrant spirit and love for adventure. Bob was a man of high ethics and moral standards, whose friendship was a gift to all who knew him. He was a devoted family man who led by example, teaching Sunday School for many years and serving as an usher at his church. His quick wit, ready smile, and unwavering faith were constants in his life's journey, earning him deep respect and admiration in his community. A service to honor and celebrate Bob's life will be held on August 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Anona United Methodist Church, located at 13233 Indian Rocks Road, Largo, FL 33774. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Anona United Methodist Church - Residing Hope, reflecting Bob's enduring commitment to his church and community.
