November 30, 1941 — September 15, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Robert Louis Fernandez, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Robert departed this world peacefully on September 15, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication that touched all who knew him. Born on November 30, 1941, in Tampa, Florida, Robert was the cherished son of Fernando and Maria Fernandez. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Fernando Fernandez Junior, and his son Michael Louis Fernandez. Despite these profound losses, Robert's spirit remained resilient and filled with warmth and generosity. Robert was a proud graduate of the University of Florida, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering in 1964—an accomplishment that marked him as the first in his family to graduate from college. This achievement set the foundation for a successful career that included pivotal roles at Olin Chemical and Quaker Oats. Later in life, he embraced a new venture with his wife, helping to expand their pet shop, Pet's to Luv, into a thriving business with three locations. His passion for animals extended into volunteer work, as he brought joy to elder care facilities by sharing the companionship of puppies and kittens. A man of deep faith, Robert was an active member of Abundant Life Church, where he found solace and community. His love of life was evident in his many hobbies; he was an enthusiastic racquetball player, a fan of tennis and football, and an unwavering supporter of his beloved University of Florida Gators. His joy was contagious, particularly when he was dancing which he would do anywhere there was musci and making people laugh and smile. Robert is survived by his devoted wife of over 60 years, Angela Fernandez, whom he married on November 13, 1964. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared countless memories. He is also survived by his children: Anthony Fernandez and his husband Albert, Carolyn Shantz and her husband Tim, and Trina Keathley and her husband Ryan. His daughter-in-law, Kim Cunningham, and her husband Kyle also held a special place in his heart. Robert was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren: Jordan Stewart and her husband Homer, Josh Cunningham and his wife Rebecca, Josh Shantz and his wife Alissa, Taylor Shantz, Chase Campbell and his wife Makaela, Cole Campbell, Ryan David Keathley and his wife, EmmaBeth and Sloan Keathley. His legacy continues through his great-grandchild, Sage Michael Stewart, who was born just in time for Robert to see before his passing. A celebration of Robert's remarkable life will be held at Forest Park East Funeral Home, located at 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas 77598. In honor of Robert's compassionate spirit, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of one's choice in lieu of flowers.
