September 21, 1943 — March 1, 2026

Robert Leroy Russell, cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 1, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on September 21, 1943, in the quaint town of Ashland, Kentucky, Robert's life was a tapestry of love, family, and passion that touched all who were fortunate enough to know him. The beloved son of Charles and Myrtle Russell, Robert grew up learning the values of kindness, hard work, and devotion to family, lessons that he carried throughout his life. Predeceased by his parents and his brother, James Russell, Robert's legacy of love continues through those he leaves behind. Robert's life was enriched by the family he adored. His daughter, Cynthia Russell, was the apple of his eye, and he delighted in every moment spent with his grandchildren, Brennen Byrd, Desire' Ford, and Alisia Russell. They were, as he fondly said, the light of his life. He also loved his dear sister, Linda Burlew of Carbondale KS. A man of many interests, Robert found joy in the simple pleasures of life. His love for trains was a lifelong passion, a source of wonder and nostalgia. In his workshop, Robert crafted beautiful birdhouses, each a testament to his skill and creativity. He spent countless peaceful hours on his porch, watching the delicate dance of hummingbirds and tending to his cherished tomato plants. These were moments of serenity that defined his days. One of Robert's cherished traditions was visiting Applebee’s, where he relished their signature ribs. It was a simple pleasure that brought him joy, a reflection of his appreciation for life’s delights. His love for peanut butter fudge was funny as he could clear the entire batch without sharing . His warmth and humor made every gathering a treasured memory for his family and friends. Robert's life will be celebrated privately at the Thomas-Meeker Funeral Home, located at 216 West Mulberry Street, West Union, Ohio 45693, on March 8, 2026. Family will gather privately in remembrance of a man whose life was a testament to love, kindness, and devoted family ties. As we celebrate Robert's life, we also celebrate the love he shared, a legacy that will continue to inspire those he left behind. The family requests that you honor Robert’s memory by spending a moment in nature, perhaps watching the birds or tending a garden—activities that brought him so much joy. In remembering Robert Leroy Russell, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life that was a blessing to all who knew him.
