It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Leland Ferrel, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Robert passed away peacefully on the evening of May 5, 2026, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family, after a long and courageous battle. He was 91 years old. Born on December 29, 1934, in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, Robert was the beloved son of the late Leland and Marion Wennington Ferrel. His life was a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering dedication to his family and country. Robert proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 distinguished years, dedicating his life to the service of his nation and exemplifying the values of honor and commitment. His time in the military was marked by integrity and a profound sense of duty, attributes that he carried with him throughout his life. In addition to his service, Robert was a devoted husband to his late wife, Phyllis Ferrel, whom he cherished deeply. Together, they built a life of love and happiness, creating a family that would become his greatest joy and legacy. Robert is survived by his two sons, William Ferrel and his wife, Brenda, and David Ferrel, who were the light of his life. His legacy continues through his three grandchildren, Kristine, Douglas, and Marcia Ferrel, and is further enriched by the laughter and love of his seven great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Jordan, Ryan, Colton, Carter, Ellianna, and Emma. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins who will forever remember his kindness and strength. His family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Pennsylvania University Hospital for their extraordinary care and support during his final days. In keeping with Robert's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor his life and legacy. Though he has departed from this world, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Robert Leland Ferrel will be remembered as a man of great honor, love, and loyalty. His life was a beacon of strength, and his memory will be cherished forever. We find comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with his beloved Phyllis in eternal peace.
