Robert Lee Wideman

July 19, 1946 — May 18, 2026

It is with profound sadness and heartfelt gratitude for a life beautifully lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Robert Lee Wideman on May 18, 2026, surrounded by his devoted family. Robert was born on July 19, 1946, in McCormick, South Carolina, to Moses and Tommie Elizabeth Wideman, who preceded him in death. His journey through life was marked by love, laughter, and an unwavering devotion to those he cherished. Robert was a man of many roles, each filled with immense love and dedication. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Lurlean Wideman, with whom he shared a bond that was both a partnership and a profound friendship. Together, they created a nurturing home filled with love and laughter that served as a sanctuary for family and friends alike. As a father, Robert was a guiding light to his seven children: Jeffrey McCrimmon, Terry McCrimmon, Kenny Wideman, Chantell Favors, Linda Brathwaite (George), Shalonda Gusta (Maury), and Robert Barnett (Veronica). His legacy of love and wisdom will continue to guide them and their families, including his eight grandchildren: Kaitlyn Houston, Khartier Cannon, Christina McCrimmon, Kensington Collins, Jacob Favors, Dylan Brathwaite, Madison Barnett, and Erin Barnett; and his great-grandchild, Journee Houston. Robert was cherished by his siblings, Peggy Woods and Thelma Morton (Bernard), and his brother Tom Wideman (Thomasine). He was a beloved uncle and friend, touching the lives of countless nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends. His kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on all who knew him. For 30 years, Robert dedicated himself to his career at Chrysler Manufacturer, where he was respected not just for his work ethic but for the warmth and camaraderie he brought to his workplace. His ability to connect with people was evident in every facet of his life, making every room he entered feel warmer and more welcoming. Robert's passions were as diverse as they were endearing. He had a gift for bringing people together, whether around a card table, a cookout grill, or a television set tuned to Judge Judy, Al Sharpton, CNN, or MSNBC. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life: fishing in serene waters, savoring a cup of Dunkin' Donuts coffee, playing the lottery at the local gas station, or tinkering under the hood of a car. He could cook a meal that made everyone feel at home, a testament to his nurturing spirit. Predeceased by his parents, son Robert Wideman, Jr., sister Ola Mae Murray, brother-in-law Willie Lee Murray, nephew Bobby Wideman, and niece Nicole Wideman, Robert's memory lives on in the hearts of those who survive him. A celebration of Robert's life will be held on June 6, 2026, at Legacy Funeral Home, located at 8968 Fayetteville Road, Jonesboro, Georgia. Family and friends are invited to join us in honoring a life that was as meaningful as it was full. The family extends their deepest gratitude for the love, support, and prayers received during this difficult time. Robert Lee Wideman's legacy is one of love, warmth, and unwavering kindness—a legacy that will endure in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
