Robert Lee "Butch" Slider

June 9, 1944 — April 24, 2026

In loving memory, we honor the life of Robert Lee "Butch" Slider, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on June 9, 1944, in Fairmont, West Virginia, Butch was the beloved son of William Earl and Rosalie (Kisner) Slider, who predeceased him and now welcome him into eternal rest. Butch was a proud graduate of Morgantown High School, where he laid the foundation for a life rich in experiences and contributions. His career was marked by hard work and dedication, having retired from Consolidated Coal (Leverage) Mines. Throughout his life, Butch was a man of many talents and ventures. He owned and operated a family tree farm, which he tended with love and care, and worked at Sharon Steel, Mt Zion Nursery, and Valley Worlds of Fun. His entrepreneurial spirit was evident in his ownership of a gas station on Route 73 and the Parkette Restaurant, each endeavor reflecting his commitment and industrious nature. A man of the outdoors, Butch found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved tending to his vegetable garden, feeding and watching the deer, and sawing wood on his sawmill. His love for nature was matched by his passion for hunting, fishing, and mushroom gathering. Butch was also a skilled woodworker, whose creations were a testament to his craftsmanship and creativity. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family and friends, finding happiness in their company and the memories they created together. Butch's generous spirit and vast knowledge made him a cornerstone in the lives of those around him. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, whether it was for a project, a question, or simply to share his wisdom. His presence was a blessing, and his impact will be felt for generations to come. A devoted husband, Butch is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Beverly Ann (Williams) Slider, whose partnership in life was a testament to enduring love. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including their daughters Theresa Ann Smith and her husband Virgil, and Kathleen Renee Smith and her husband Benjamin. Butch was preceded in death by his daughter Susan Denise Slider but leaves behind a legacy through his grandchildren: Charles "Ray" Barber III, Allison Mara Stine, Janelle Renee Smith, Nettie Mae Barber, and Robert "Lee" Barber, alongside step-grandchildren Brittany Smith and Braylee Smith. Butch is also survived by his siblings, Thomas E "Tom" Slider and his wife Peggy, and William E "Doc" Slider and his wife Patty, who together shared countless memories and experiences. He is predeceased by his siblings Rickie David Slider and Rose Ann "Missy" (Wright) Morris. An active member of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA), Butch's contributions extended beyond his family and friends, reaching into the community he held dear. His life was a testament to service, kindness, and a profound love for those around him. In this time of remembrance, the family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to WVU Hospice for their excellent care and compassion during Butch's final days. Their support provided comfort and solace to both Butch and his family. As we say goodbye to Butch, we hold onto the memories, the lessons, and the love he imparted throughout his life. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his spirit will forever be a guiding light for his family and friends. May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory be forever cherished.
