It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Robert L. Sheats Sr., who departed this life peacefully at home on February 23, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on February 3, 1946, in the serene town of Athens, Georgia, Robert lived a life marked by integrity, dedication, and an unwavering love for his family and community. Robert was the cherished husband of Onell Sheats, his beloved partner of more than six decades. Their journey together began in Atlanta in 1963, where they built a beautiful family and celebrated over 60 years filled with love and laughter. Together, they nurtured three wonderful children: Ravelynne Freeman, who resides in Dallas, Texas, with her husband Rev. Samuel Freeman; Robert Sheats Jr., who lives in Atlanta, Georgia, with his wife Kieta; and Christopher Sheats, who has made his home in Athens, Georgia, with his wife Shanna. Robert was a proud veteran, serving his country with honor in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1978. After his military service, he embarked on a career as an engineer at Ford Motor Company, where he spent over 20 years contributing to the field and mentoring young engineers. His dedication to his work was only surpassed by his commitment to guiding and uplifting those around him. Robert retired in 2005, leaving behind a legacy of innovation and mentorship. A man of faith, Robert was an active member of the Cascade United Methodist Church, where he found community and spiritual solace. His presence in the church was a testament to his strong faith and his desire to give back to the community that had given him so much. Robert is survived by his devoted wife, Onell, their three children, and a large extended family that includes ten dear siblings: Dr. Jimmy Sheats, Fannie B. Williams, Herman Sheats, Patricia Dowdy, Frank Sheats, Judy Sheats, Dewey Sheats, LaShelle Parrish, Lily Teasley, and Michael Sheats. He was also a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Chaz Sheats, Angela Woodward, Alexis Slaton, Ashley Aleem, and AnnieNell Freeman, and a loving great-grandfather to thirteen great-grandchildren. He will be lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support were the cornerstones of his character, and his legacy will continue to inspire those he touched. A service to celebrate Robert's life will be held on February 27, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Cascade United Methodist Church, located at 3144 Cascade Rd SW, Atlanta, GA 30311. Family, friends, and community members are invited to join in honoring the life of a truly remarkable man. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Robert's memory to a charity of your choosing, in the spirit of his lifelong commitment to helping others. Robert L. Sheats Sr. will remain forever in our hearts. His life was a blessing, and his memory will be a treasure to all who knew him.
