Robert L. Hummel

August 8, 1938 — August 18, 2026

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert L. Hummel, affectionately known as Bob, who peacefully left this world surrounded by his family and friends on August 18, 2026. Born on August 8, 1938, in Palatine, Illinois, Bob's life was a testament to hard work, love, and community spirit. Bob was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Erika, with whom he shared over fifty years of marriage before her passing. Together, they built a life filled with love and adventure, raising their cherished children, Rob and Jodi. Bob's legacy continues through them, their spouses, and his special nephew, Troy. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to his life. Bob's sister Linda, along with numerous family members and friends, will deeply feel his absence. A graduate of Palatine High School, Bob went on to found Hummel Construction in the 1960s. What began as small excavating jobs grew into a flourishing construction company, which continues to thrive under the ownership of his son, Rob. Bob was a visionary, expanding the company’s reach into successful real estate developments, leaving a lasting impact through landmark commercial and residential projects across the Midwest. His dedication and passion have ensured a legacy of growth and enduring design for generations to come. Bob was a man of many talents and passions. An avid outdoorsman, he found joy in hunting, sharpshooting, fishing, and trapping. He had a fondness for farming, motorcycling, and working on old tractors and trucks. Anything mechanical piqued his interest, and he relished living the farm life during his later years. Bob was known for his quick wit, love of family, and adventurous spirit. He was the life of the party, hosting countless gatherings that brought laughter and joy to all who attended. Bob is now reunited with his beloved Erika and his six brothers and five sisters, who surely welcomed him at Heaven's Gate. His legacy of love, laughter, and dedication will be cherished by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Bob's memory to a charity of one's choice. His family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the love and support they have received during this difficult time. Bob will be dearly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
