It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Robert James Shields, affectionately known as "Bobby," on May 18, 2026. Bobby departed from this world surrounded by the love and comfort of his family, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, courage, and unwavering dedication to the values he held dear. He was born on April 14, 2000, in Riverside, California, to his adoring parents, Robert and Heidi Shields.
Bobby's life was a testament to the power of compassion and service. From an early age, he demonstrated a remarkable empathy for others, a trait that guided him throughout his life. His educational journey began at Temescal Canyon High School, where he graduated in 2019. Driven by a desire to serve his country and community, Bobby enlisted in the Utah Army National Guard in 2021, where he completed his basic training in 2022. With an unwavering commitment to helping those in need, he pursued further education and graduated from the EMT 2 program at Dixie Tech in 2024.
Bobby's heart was as expansive as his dreams. Though not married, he found fulfillment in the love of his family and friends. He is survived by his devoted parents, Robert and Heidi Shields, his loving sisters, Bailee and Heather Shields, his brother, Brandon Shields, and his cherished nieces and nephews. The memory of Bobby will forever be treasured by all who knew him.
Those who knew Bobby will remember his adventurous spirit and his passions that brought him joy. He had a deep appreciation for his guns and his beloved motorcycle, playfully referring to it as "my baby." Bobby's adventurous nature was matched only by his profound sense of justice. He was a true Social Justice Warrior, tirelessly advocating for equality and fairness for all. His faith in the Lord Jesus was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and offering him solace.
A proud member of the Utah Army National Guard, Bobby served his country with honor and dedication. He relocated to Las Vegas to pursue a career as an EMT, a testament to his commitment to saving lives and making a difference. Bobby aspired to be deployed on active duty, reflecting his unwavering loyalty and desire to serve.
Bobby's departure leaves a void in the hearts of his loved ones, but his memory will be celebrated at a service to be held on June 20, 2026, at Beryl Baptist Church, 162 N 200 W, Beryl, Utah, at 10 am. Following the service, interment will take place at Tonaquint Cemetery in St. George at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Switchpoint Utah Homeless, an organization reflecting Bobby's commitment to helping those in need.
The Shields family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who showed kindness and compassion to Bobby throughout his life. As they mourn this immeasurable loss, they find solace in the love and support of friends and family. Bobby's light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew him, forever reminding us of the impact one life can have.
